Title: Windows 10 Installs and the long waiting time
Post by: PeterSt on January 16, 2016, 11:38:49 am
All,

This is in the Release Notes from the last couple of XXHighEnd versions, targeting Windows 10 :

It appears to be so that a very first XXHighEnd install on the Windows 10 Operating System takes a rather long time before the XXHighEnd screen appears (this first time). Think 6 minutes !
What you will notice of this is a taskbar icon for XXHighEnd (hovering it will show the screen in grey colour) and all you need to do is wait.
It is not clear what is happening during that time; it is a Windows 10 quirk.

I myself now have experienced this several times and noticed that the 6 minutes can also be 10 minutes and by that time I gave up. However, killing XXHighEnd.exe (which is actually installing itself at that moment) will destroy the screen settings, which for newbies is quite tough to repair (for myself not much different btw). It then looks like this :

Afer a bit of struggle, like finding the [ 2 ] you see in the upper left corner and drag that to the right (which nobody knows of course), you may end up with this :

which still is horrible of course.
But how to know what to do ...

So today I sat down for this, and finally could find the culprit :
It is again that function which is able to shut off the monitor and which brings strange problems for Windows 10. This function coincidentally was used in the initialization (Install) phase for testing the program concerned itself (this is about the message in the beginning that "10 programs can start" etc.), so it could easily be replaced with something else, testing that same program.

So another Windows 10 anomaly is now finally solved (2.05 and up).
