Title: Keeping it all on all the time vs using standby / off?
Post by: Tore on October 04, 2020, 07:38:14 pm
Peter, can you tell us where to find the button  :), i have never heard about this before.

After thinking about this "20 minute" heat up for a year, I decided to make a provision in the (XXHE) software that allows for silently playing music. USB is now active all thee time (though at a fairly low level) and the DAC is actively performing its D/A task continuously. And yes, even the amplifiers and everything is just On (IOW you won't hear a thing of this).

And then something happened I could not predict ...

 With this feature, you actually play music 24/7 and the difference - at least in my situation - is crazy. The sound is so so much more clean (more crispy, more responsive). And of course right from the first tones of music for the day. 😉

I never knew that this could make such a difference, and obviously when you play music continuously for say 8 hours, you won't notice either because it will go gradually (better).

Hi Tore, ... sorry about not being more clear about this ...

At the end of the day, you press the E from Alt-E at the shortcut Menu. This Pauses Playback.
The next day, say 18 hours later, you press Alt-P - this continues playback.
... But in between playback was always going on ...

Best regards,
Peter

Trying to understand this more.  Currently:

- I have the Audio PC and Music PC on all the time;
- The NOS1 DAC is on all the time;
- The Orelo amps are on all the time;
- XXHE is in the state it is when Unattended playback completes.

Does the procedure mentioned improve on this because XXHE is playing all the time?

Peter,

How many albums do you typically load in memory when you listen all day?  If I have a large selection of music to play all day, I usually play in Attended mode because I've never been sure how much can be loaded in memory--especially MQA tracks.

Ramesh, One. And with MQA less I suppose.
But I only listen to albums when they are new. And then one is "logic" I think. Otherwise I only play from Galleries and I take care that no more than 60 minutes or so is loaded. With Hires/MQA less (say half of normal maximum).
