Title: How to stop Windows 7 from attempting an internet connection?
Post by: boleary on October 09, 2011, 01:18:36 pm
When I have all network adapters disabled in device manager, windows 7 still attempts to connect to the internet on boot up and, while playing XX in unattended, whenever I "Alt X" to bring the gui back up. Its more than a bit annoying. Can this be stopped?

Well I guess what's annoying is that some unnecessary process for achieving great SQ and smooth gui operation is "also" attempting to "work". In the XX world of less operating system the better, it just seems "not right" to have all these attempts at connecting to the internet every time I "altX" to bring up the gui. However; just because it "seems" not right doesn't make it so.   :)

Now I still don't know what you see !
I'm asking for a reason, because I don't see a thing of "it". Only right after reboot (for 10 seconds or so it tries to find the network and the circle runs over the network icon), and especially not after bringing up XX.

So ?

Okay, on my system, while playing music in unattended,  an attempt to connect to the internet (circle runs over the network icon) is made every time I alt X to bring up the gui. Is this normal?

Ok, I understand now. But then with "all these attempts" you mean "at each time I bring up XXHighEnd". So yes, that would be true. But harmless of course, unless you really are annoyed that it will disturb sound when you bring up XX. But the whole process already does that, the Desktop being the first.

What could be done is that the desktop is not brought up (and only e.g. when Playback is stopped), but it seems not convenient to me (a bit depending on the reason why you brought up XX, with one of the possible reasons to bring back the Desktop without interrupting playback ...).

So, I'm not sure.
