Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Not getting into Minimised mode (W10)

Peter,
All worked fine and sounded great in Normal OS, unattended mode. I'm running W10-Build 10074 showing as follows on my screen in the right hand corner. "Test mode". Below that: "Windows Pro Insider Preview" and below that: "Evaluation copy. Build 10074". Seems OK?
My sig shows "Mixed contiguous" and that is what it is.
I can't go back to Normal mode anymore to check things, or whatever. That is the problem. If I click on the XX symbol in the taskbar, or double click the .exe, then the only thing that happens is the "Check UAC" popup appearing displaying this "After this a Reboot is required...." message. Selecting Cancel vanishes the popup; clicking OK too and no reboot takes place. I waited a few minutes to check this.
I seem to locked into this (please don't tell me that I have to reinstall all...)
Bert
Hi, read in the news today, that the W10 previews are all locked now. (no update etc. possible) You can try to change the actual date via the BIOS back to "lets say 2015-01-10 or so" Would be interesting to see if W10 starts again. Joachim EDIT: The other bad news with W10: we can’t avoid „automatic updates” except with the Enterprise edition.

Otherwise, the other day - with Windows 10 - I again tried the Ikea Bamboo. But it still didn't work for me. Of course this will also be related to the footers under it.
Hi, I tested the Ikea board with the same configuration under the NOS1, where it didn't work, but under the laptop it's perfect. You might test the board (with the foam pads underneath) with your XXH PC. Joachim

Hi
Read in the HiFiplus 124 that there is a new bamboo plinth for the Linn LP12 turntable on the market with a great SQ impact.
Based on this I made the first modification on my system. The big IKEA tablet (with Harmonix footers) went under the laptop. Second: Somebody on CA recommended to use pressured bicycle tyres tubes as footers, and I bought foam insulation for pipings for € 3,50 and installed them under the NOS1 and the NSWPS. (See pictures) First impressions after two hours listening to Stanley Clarke and Brian Bromberg tracks: amazing, best bass with a very realistic timbre I ever heard in my room, more details and smoother highs.

As I wrote a couple of days ago, the “100W HDPlex” LPS arrived and the SQ improved with a very quiet background and “digging out” more details (not heard before).
My conclusion: “Something is going on with the SQ using a LPS”. Thank you too, Joachim. But ... where did you write that ? I missed it (and now can't find it). Thank you, Peter Hi Peter, there is a "hell of traffic" in this forum at present and I didn't mention the brand of the LPS, but see here: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3268.msg35384#msg35384To clarify, we all know, that every system sounds different, very different. Something else is that I feel that the "normal" linear power supply is NOT doing what it theoretically promises. I see no proof of it anywhere and to give one example from our own circles : even Mani stays silent.
Regards, Peter
Hi Peter, Since one year I’m going a different route (8xAP only) with a laptop, which is with the performance in comparison to the “others” very slowly (especially for 192KHz files I have to avoid) , but the SQ was superior to my audio PC with an I5 processor. As I wrote a couple of days ago, the “100W HDPlex” LPS arrived and the SQ improved with a very quiet background and “digging out” more details (not heard before). My conclusion: “Something is going on with the SQ using a LPS”. Joachim

I would like to make a couple of questions about something much more ordinary, I'm a little embarrassed due to the high level of this topic, but here are the questions: what about the cpu fan? Your XXHighEnd PC has one fan and I have three. And, what about the power supply? Is there a way to feed the PC with an external power supply? We know they have also influence in the SQ.
Regards, Juan
Hi Juan, in my opinion Michaels fanless PC configuration with an external PS is a good starting point. I got my none switching external PS for the laptop, and the SQ improves with more details and a very quiet background. We don't need the >150 Watt CPU's for the best SQ possible, except you like speed for processes (FLAC to WAV conversion etc) prior the start of the music replay for your convenience. Joachim
