Thanks Leif. Happy

But I'm afraid it says nothing. Working all the time on it here, and (lucikly swoon) I was able to let repeat the problem by removing those new log file entries I mentioned.
There is something very very strange going on, or I must be doing something very very wrong.

It is true that Attended is completely f*cked up. But on a total of maybe 20 hours working on this now, I don't have a clue.
I'm confident your problems will emerge again. Not today, then tomorrow. But in heaven's sake, why ?

Hi Leif, I don't think so. You must be having the same problem as Kuo-Yao.
It seems to be something very strange, since I too could copy it (as a matter of fact on Jan. 18 I spent some 8 hours on solving it, while it all the time happened, and with no clues left I built in an additional log message, and from then on it stopped happening, and I could never repeat it anymore.

Right now I am working on the latest log file from Kuo-Yao (with that additional entry), and I already saw something strange in there. So, just started the process again, and one run takes 8 minutes (of playing). Pffff

Thanks for understanding.

Thank you Fidelio. I will certainly try to find what may cause it. It was unintentional anyway !

w-6 has been playing without any quirks since last post

Ok, that is very good to know. Thank you very much.
Is w-7 as wrong ? (maybe I missed that you talked about this somewhere)
13625  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: w-8 problem on: January 24, 2009, 02:09:30 pm
[I merged your new topic with this existing one, because I think both problems are the same / related.]

Uhm Leif, no need to shout I think. Ok, this is up to you of course, but did you or anyone mention a thing like this before, no !
Does anyone complain in areas like you do now ? no ! maybe there are complaints, but then not that I know of.
So, give yourself a chance on solving things (or me for that matter), or don't. I don't know ...

Anyway, something is wrong here, and I think it must be something unique on your side. Not that I can't think of how (so I blame myself anyway), but
a. you seem to be the only one;
b. you seem to have the same with Attended.

If things come down to No Track Given Error I indeed see something which I at least am able to copy ... sometimes. But this is Attended only, and the same person does not have problems with Unattended.

Now ...

I“ve downloaded the xx engine

If you indeed mean the XXEngine3 I originally referred to, this was a mistake (see posts above), and this should have been XXHighEnd (again, see above). It may not help at all, but sure some anomalies have been solved regarding this, but Attended only.

all unattended:

just jumps past it and plays on in the next without the bar moving

Are you sure you mean Unattended ? Both quotes above don't go together. I never see any bar moving at Unattended. Please be clear ...

it  plays one track fine then doesn“t find next track

What do you mean "doesn't find next track" ? does it give a message ?

A few hints on testing hence finding the cause :

Set the "Split files at size" to 300 and preferrably play tracks under 6-7 minutes. This avoids any uncertainty the Split Files thing does wrong (I mean, this is important to me for now). Do not Double/upsample etc. and do not play hires files in order to avoid memory problems.

Do not tick "Copy to XX drive". That too avoids additional anomalies.

Might above settings help, then please let me know.

If you meant Attended afterall, please confirm that Unattended goes well. In that case you will be having similar as Kuo-Yao has.

Lastly, is this something you have occasionally, or just all the time ?

In any case you too can tick "Log Activities" and post the logfiles (in the TemporaryData folder under your XX folder) from the session things went wrong. Please look at the times for the files concerned. Usually this is one XX file and two X3 files at least.
In the mean time I will be working on the problem Kuo-Yao has, and may I be able to solve that, it may help you too.

Keep it up,
Peter

No Jack, I'm just glad you could solve it.
But I didn't quite get what happened. grazy
13628  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Screen/Video crash with 0.9-w6 on: January 22, 2009, 06:57:20 pm
I think I can do similar by myself :

Look at the first picture below. I dragged the left pane large (a bit like you have it). Note this can be done with the split bar the mouse points at. Once at this size, quitting XX and restarting it, hides the area you indeed are missing. It is under the picture (and an anomaly I apparently cause). Now drag the bar again. And voilį there the area is back (second picture).

This may not be your case, and certainly Unattended won't switch to Attended because of this.

?

Jack, I have put something together for you. Please try it : How to delete a misbehaving ConfigFile.
13630  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / How to delete a misbehaving ConfigFile on: January 22, 2009, 06:37:48 pm

Edit : This does *not* apply to version 0.9z-5 and higher !

I put this in a separate topic, so it will be more easy to find it back later (for me, or for you).

Things can go wrong (really proven 1 time until so far) in the "config file" Windows maintains for any program. XXHighEnd included.
It may be needed to delete that config file in order to even be able to restart the program.

How to find the location of the config file ?

First you must enable (have enabled) "Show hidden folders and files". For that :
Start Explorer, go to Organize Files - Folder and Search options - Tab View (or similar).
You should end up in the DeleteConfig01 picture below, and the entry Show Hidden Files and Folders.
When this is done, close Explorer and restart it.

In Explorer, find the entries as shown in DeleteConfig02 below.
Note that
- "Gebruikers" is Users in english.
- "Beekman" is my user name. So find yours.
- Phasure is the obvious place to be.

In the Phasure folder several entries may exist, but you can see from the contents which is the actual one you need.
In my case it is the first, because that is the one containing folders with actual dates. You can see that the last change to the configuration has been applied at Januari 21 2009 (yesterday). This happens each time XXHighEnd closes.
Oh, you can also see how many "versions" emerge at my place because each entry is another version.
The latest one will be the one in use.

The picture at the bottom below (DeleteConfig03) shows the contents of such a folder, a user.config file.

Now : Delete the newest folder. In my case this would be 1.0.3306.26880.

At the next startup XXHighEnd (just like after a new install) will ask you whether to restore the latest settings. In this case (hence when you seem to have problems with the configuration stuff, do NOT. So, Load previous settings ? No.
(if you answer yes, the now latest new file gets used).

In case of problems with this, just post in this topic.

Sometime ? hehe, I think it is in the first post of this topic, and planned long before that !

But just 10 minutes ago the theoretical solution for I2S in NOS mode was found. Practical takes a few days more.
Will keep you informed. Happy
13632  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9w-8 won't launch at /64 on: January 22, 2009, 01:01:44 pm
If you popin an XXHighEnd.exe in that folder (!) from a version you know it worked ...
It then may work again, but next you put back the .exe from 0.9w-8 (again in the same folder). Maybe that helps ?

I'm rather clueless, but it should be related to the "saved settings". You can explicitly throw those out too, but I must look up where they sit (somewhere under c:\users\) which is posted on the forum somewhere.

I like w8 better for its fullness and details not heard in previous versions mentioned

That is indeed what my longer winded previous post comes down to. And although one may argue that even this is so, something else may cause the other version to be liked better, I did not hear the "more detail" as an argument (from the con side Happy). What I really want to say is : I can't imagine that if this is my notice, it works out differently with someone else. It is quite an absolute thing you know (like foot tapping is way important, but not an absolute thing). It now is even the more important, when Leif hears, say, the same as I do, while he uses an oversampling DAC and I do not. I imagined this could matter, which is why I slowly brought up the subject. But as said, it would be the first time that the DAC matters on XX judgements, and so it still is not (at least not on the OS/NOS side of matters).

Btw, by no means (and I mean by NO means) I want to state things here. I never did and I never will (the whole project would be rendered useless then), but this seems a strange one.
All this "strangeness" would be gone when people say "yeah, of course I hear more detail. But nevertheless I don't like it". Which would not be rare at all. Having said that, personally I have big problems with liking a version that molests complete instruments over a version which don't. The first may have better foot tapping figures, but if so BOTH versions are wrong then.

Lastly, we must be careful. And now I *do* bring up the DAC subject, but which I do this time to leave all more in the open and objective;

With my old DAC I could choose SPDIF and USB. The USB connection was converted to SPDIF inside. Not the best, and from that or something else, both sounded different. This could not be explained in real technical terms by me, except for a perceived more strong bass in the favour of USB. USB lost though, because of the lack of musicians wanting to play for *you* (call it a sub-foot tapping matter).

This time I can choose for SPDIF and I2S. The difference should be in terms of jitter only, and where SPDIF has loads of jitter, I2S has nothing in comparison. Note : This is a bit apples and oranges for reasons beyond the subject here, but looking at the result : jitter, it is okay to use the phenomenon.
Now, the difference is day and night. I said it elsewhere, this is two different DACs because of this only. But, it is very difficult to describe what you actually hear when listening to SPDIF. I mean, without knowing the I2S connection one could try to describe the common phenomena from music playback. But with the I2S connection as a reference, one could easily say "wow, what a raw sound that is". Additionally the higher picthed sounds are not equally spread over the spectrum (one tone of a xylophone sounds louder than the other).

Since about all XX can do about the SQ is jitter-influence at the input side, we are dealing with something which cannot be compared amongst us all; So, before I continue : you can bet if I have a jittery connection, XX has more influence on that compared to when I don't have a jittery connection at all. Thus, my raw perception from SPDIF can be smoothened by XX to some extend, while the I2S connection is already inherintly smooth. Also :
When a DAC is insensitive to incoming jitter, nothing can be done on that side of matters, and what remains (for XX) is some "mysterious" other influence (which btw really is there). Now :

Apart from some DACs which cannot be influenced at all (two exist, and I don't think one of us here has one), there are some DACs around of which can be said they are virtually immune to incoming jitter. You out there may have one (but then I wouldn't know the brand), and more of them will emerge in near future. BUT :
Leif has one, and I have one.
oops

I know, statistically there's a million times too few data to work with, but I dare say this *does* matter, and it may well be an explanation in this case;
The jitter influence from XX can hardly be at work, and only that other thing (working upon the analoge side of the DAC) is still working. Next it should be so that this other thing incurs for better detail (which I extend to making instruments more real), while a NEGATIVE jitter influence from the 0.9w versions (should be from off 0.9w-5) masks that better detail which actually is there.
It would, btw, fit my ideas about better detail being totally unrelated to foot tapping qualities.

Ok, I hope there's not too much nonsense in the above, and I'm only trying to find explanations, and in the mean time present some proof of not wanting to state anything as being wrong or right.
if we all can keep it up, right now two camps are right. For me this just means "work to do", and try to create something with both virtues in it.

Can you make a copy of the contents of that message ? Note you can open it for details.
Most probably you can't suffice with one screenshort, because there's a scrollbar.

Btw, isn't there another message in between (like save your old settings, blahblah) ?
