Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: RAM -OS files do not load into 16GB memory

I am finally considering adding the RAM-OS but I just noticed this post.
I use an onboard GPU (ASRock Z97M Pro4) and was wondering if it is still the case that the RAM-OS will not load unless there is a separate PCIe graphics card.
Has anyone been able to get things up and running with in onboard GPU or do I need to get a graphics card?
Thanks,
David

Hi Michael and thanks for the suggestion. I'm giving it a try. One thing- I have difficulties running Unattended, it's unstable. Often the RDC link gets lost and can't be recovered. The PC must be rebooted. So I put it on the side for now.
Do you have the stop W10 services checked? I always have trouble eventually if I try unattended with that checked. I have no trouble playing unattended and keeping the remote connection with only Stop Desktop, Stop Remaining, Stop WASAP, Keep LAN and Use Remote checked. Best, David

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Stop W10 services
|

Hi Peter,
If I check stop W10 services, all works as it did before when coming out of an unattended playback session with the desktop/taskbar eventually displayed.
If I uncheck W10, and come out of an unattended playback, XXHE starts but the start button and the desktop are empty. I can continue to load another album and enter unattended again. If I hit the stop button when XXHE is back from unattended, all the desktop and taskbar options reappear.
I quite like that this happens (with W10 unchecked) for simplicity sake and I was wondering if it was on purpose. If not, is it happening for anyone else?
Just an amazing job with this one! I cannot believe that you keep finding ways to improve the sound.
Best,
David

Hi Peter, I'm still waiting for the soup recipe! We have been baking a lot of bread though with all the mouths to feed here. Thanks for bringing up K&D again. I bought the CDs for K&D Sessions in the late 90's when I was in Madrid and have those two disks as a soundtrack which brings me back to Spain every time. I have not listen to Peach Orchestra's "Reset" before but have it on now. Is it my imagination or does XXHE11 sound quite a bit better than 10 right from the start? David

Hi Peter, As a side note, I have always preferred the lower SFS settings so I am surprised that this one holds together for me. I also built a new amp recently and have been adjusting to its sound, so it could be a combination of things. Maybe also the heat. No soup here either. I assume that when you'd play 2 tracks at a time, the early stop equally occurs at the end of each last (thus the 2nd) track, right ?
Yes, this is correct. The early stop doesn't really bother me now since there are no problems with the rest of the playlist. Best, David

Hi Peter, This may be a slight exaggeration but here is a quick description of what is happening for me with the different SFS settings. Since I listen in my studio and it is not a nice acoustically set up room, my speakers cannot be placed at an equal distance from my usual listening position. With the SFS set a 5.19, that doesn't matter, they are close enough. The voice is in the center and everything sounds pretty good and full but maybe a bit like listening with headphones as far as the soundstage is concerned. With the higher SFS, I noticed the voice pulls to the closer speaker and the instruments sound as if they are more present within the room. I've had to experiment with the speaker placement so I could get everything to fit back together but it feels like there is more clarity in each individual speaker and less which gets mixed up between them if that makes sense. I am preferring the higher SFS now. The early stop I never noticed, but this could be a matter of not paying attention (or play music where this is not easily noticable). Anyway, it will be the same thing again; you will notice the maybe even 20 seconds delay on e.g. Alt-n because that is the size of the buffer and that at 768 (705.6).
I constantly get the early stop if I play one track at a time. On the task manager, I noticed my CPU drops from 12% at .77 GHZ to 0% at about that 5 second mark before the track ending. Any idea why the CPU would just drop to 0% like that? Best, David

Hi Peter,
I've been listening to the new settings for the past day or so and am enjoying them. When I use unattended with the album art wallpaper, I find that the cover art will change to the next song before the current song stops playing. Maybe about 5 seconds before or so. I have also noticed that sometimes the last song in a playlist may suddenly stop a couple of seconds before its' correct end.
My balanced load is at 43. Are these events that happen with only about 5 seconds left on a song related to that setting also? Or is it something else?
These issues don't bother me now, but if I decide to keep this high SFS I may try to find a solution.
Best,
David

Is it correct to assume that since you do not have "Persist" checked, you lose the ability to change the volume or use "next" track because the LAN drops the connection? No ... I know how confusing this combination of settings is, but it works the other way around because you must SET things the other way around (or understand what the setting implies) : Peter, If I reboot the audio pc and have "persist" unchecked in MinOS everything works as you suggest; the cover displays and the connection works as it should in unattended. After that playlist ends and the UI returns, if I start another playlist in Unattended, the connection is lost right after the "wait for services to stop" is done and music plays. Once the music stops, I am able to reconnect. My solution so far is to just leave persist checked and I don't have any trouble with the disconnects. Do you know why this would work once after a reboot but after that, I would continually lose the connection? David

That's what happens to me if it is unchecked, so I always have it checked. I was wondering if that may not be your case for some reason.

Hi Peter, I haven't made any changes to the services yet and was waiting for this to happen again. Is it correct that when this happens and XXHighEnd is on screen again, and you press Clear (Playlist Area) that in there it shows something like WINNT32 (instead of 14393.0) ?
Yes, Win32NT is listed instead of 14393.0
