But, the setting I've used earlier, 32bit 96Khz don't longer give me access to double or upsample. I have to select 96khz or higher 24bits to activate double or upsample. Is this kosher?

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: u10 vs. u8

About XMplay with wasapi:
IMHO it doesn't have stability of the sound. It does not feel solid as opposed to XX. I would say the sound more liquid, not stable.
Got my new tweeter today, so playing with my Focal 1037BE's again. And what do you think... XX blows XMplay away XXplay shines, but not on every speaker... Don't ask me why.. Welcome to the wonderful world of JMLab! Have a Utopia Nova Be set myself and am very happy with the speakers. The beryllium tweeters have a great resolution range IMO. OT: Peter, will try out differences (or not) tonight trying playback without Double or Upsamp between u8 and u10. "And then we will see, won't we..."

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / MS SP1 and Vista - SQ
|

Ok, have installed SP1 tonight. Against all logic the SQ from XX seems to have changed a little. Transients seem a little more "crisp" than before SP1. Have gone over all audio-related settings etc. and everything is copacetic as before, so that's not the reason.
Besides the small change in SQ, SP1 makes Vista a little faster.
This is with version u10.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / u10 vs. u8

Have swapped between these two around 10 times now. Can't really show any big differences in my setup, maybe a LITTLE more impact in the bass in u8?
Maybe u10 sound a little more clinical?
Or, is it me who's off my game?
Any other views? Using UpsampleON, Noinvert, 0db and Q=14. ProSch-3. 44/16 material, WAV only.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Hissing and clicks going from one song to the next - MP11 ripped WAVs - V. U8
|
on: March 28, 2008, 07:43:07 pm

The below only regards WAV files ripped with MP11 (MS). F.ex. EAC-ripped WAVS don't show these errors: Ok, seems also there's some problem coming from one track in the playback list to the next, but it's only sometimes... When the player stops one track and starts to play the next I sometimes got only hissing. I also got 4-6 clicks on the end of songs sometimes before skipping to the next melody. If I stop and then restarts play the errors disappear and music commences. Thought: There something added to compensate for the DBAmp software FLAC added info in the end of files...thingy you mentioned earlier which also tries to do it's magic on MP-11 ripped WAV files when playing back and that fucks up...still version U8. My 2 cents... BUT, still LOVING the sound of U8... PLEASE don't correct more than absolute necessary to fix these small tingys....

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / A giant step for mankind...U8 version

Yiiiihaa! The bass is FINALLY where it should be...the U8 version has the best bass resital, similar to the real old versions of XX IMO. It is NOT bloated but detailed and exact and seems much more in line with the level of other frequencies when XX play back material. A whole new level of emotional feedback from this version than the earlier ones. Good work, Peter! I can play louder without "gnashing my teeth", something which has bothered me the last months (versions after christmas). The music is played back with much more "feeling" and emotional pain... The "synergy" feel is much more complete with this version than the ones earlier. Seem to recall some earlier versions last fall who had some piece of this, but maybe not to this extent. LP buffs, go home and burn your recordplayers! Digital SQ has finally killed off the LP! This was a nice beginning of the weekend. NB! The above is using EAC ripped WAV 44/16 material, playing it back with DoubleON and UpsampleON, Noinvert, "DAC is 32bit 96KHz", Prosessor Scheme 3, Attended playback. Volum 0db and Q1=standard 14.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Speed problem with 44/16 playback in U-8 version

A whole new level of emotional feedback from this version than the earlier ones. Good work, Peter! Also see this thread in the SQ section: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=459.0But also a funny thing...seems to be governed by the DAC setting. When I'm playing back normal WAV 44/16 songs and try to set double and upsample to OFF, then output changes to a normal 44/16 but plays everything in double speed, kind of a Mickey Mouse thing going on... The only way to get 44/16 to play back normally is to set the DAC to DAC is 16 bits 44 Khz. Then it play back normal songs in the usual speed. I usually use the DAC is 32bits 96Khz setting.
