Terje, it's wrong that soundcards can't deliver more than 48Khz on S/PDif. My XFi Elite Pro can deliver 96Khz out (and does) and so does a lot more cards that I know of. Of course, cheap on-board solutions have very weak software solutions often not giving the user the possibility to change the frequency of the bitstream manually and to above 48Khz.
More expensive soundcard solutions have this option.
As an IT Technician, my point of view is that USB should not be used for audio at all...with it's inherent flaws, noise etc. Many implemented USB solutions also have a transmission roof of 48Khz. The speed of USB is not really suited to any more...
If you're wanting to use e.g. 96Khz, use Firewire or S/PDif IMO.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / 9U-1, Something is definitely done right this time, Peter!

Have testet and tweaked a lot after upgrading to 9U-1. Have for some time used Double and Upsampling as this has earlier given more "air" and a bigger soundstage. After the U-1 version this seems to be even better! Have also set my soundcard output to 88Khz instead of it switching automatically to 88Khz from 44.1 when XX plays. I guess as you mentioned in another thread that the 24bit conversion in this mode is also contributing to the good results. This is so much better here now than playing without Double and Upsampling that I'm never going back... In other words, 9U-1 has "something"... It's more "coherent", "analog"... Am I making sense? And is there something to this when you look at your latest programming changes? Keep up the good work, Peter! Happy now...

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Problems with 24/96 WAV files from the newest version
|

When trying to use the latest version of XX to play a 24/96 WAV file from 2l.no, see link for download below, XX crops up an error window with "Wrong stream status(1)""OK". My external Lexicon DAC supports up to 24/96 digital S/PDif in from other programs/sources without problems. I usually play 16/44 in Double and Upsample on (88Khz) without problems from XX. http://www.2l.no/hires/index.htmlDownload yourself and try. The 310MB file. Another thing, why do you restrict selection of 24 or 32bits to 32 when choosing f.ex. 24/96 or 24/192 as DAC supports? Most DACs support 24bit, not 32. Btw, PC->XFi Elite Pro->S/PDif->Lexicon MC-12B. Newest version drivers and software. Vista Ultimate.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Any new versions soon?

Hey Peter: 14 days since your last release! What gives? Nah, just pulling your leg...looking forward to the next release though due to many small bugs with the 9t-5. Sound quality is superb though. Has reverted to Q=14, Q doesn't seem so important anymore in this version? Hmm... F.ex. the program crashes and starts another XX sometimes when I'm playing attended and is into the Library Button on the far left, adding tracks to the ongoing playlist etc. etc. Settings below. Clean Vista and XX install, nothing else. Happy New Year btw.!
