Title: A new XXhe2 dedicated audio pc
Post by: fralippo on March 24, 2016, 09:41:37 am
Today I will install a new audio PC. I'd like to get some suggestions.

- is it important to only use Win10 10586.0 build? Microsoft is now distributing a higher .something release by their system.

- CPU is a i5 on a Asus Z97-A MB. Idea is to only install LAN and ChipSet drivers.

- Monitor will be a old analog VGA 1024 lcd monitor, it might work with no video drivers installed. Or would you still suggest to install them?

What do you think? Other suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi Fralippo,

Quote
Microsoft is now distributing a higher .something release by their system.

A formal one ? I mean, one which won't expire ?
Two days ago I looked and saw nothing yet, although I could feel that something is brewing.

About the drivers ...
These days I adhere the thought that drivers better be actual instead of thinking that they are harmful. This is about the thought that a not-right driver will cause interrupts which are not dealt with and thus create unwanted processing.

Peter

Yesterday I installed a fresh Win10 on my new "office" pc, old one will be dedicated to XXhe.
I downloaded from this MS page (italian):

https://www.microsoft.com/it-it/software-download/windows10

...well there's a tool that automatically wrote a usb memory. At the end a bootable key was ready for a new installation. Version still is 10586, but not ".00"
Unfortunately they don't tell you which one and now, beeing a office pc, I used win update. System info shows 10586.164 version.

Fralippo,

Updates are daily (what about 164 since October last year) and this is only for the 10586 "stream". Otherwise they are at 12425 or whatever (I am serious).

Never go ahead with this because you can't know what to expect and I will explicitly refuse to sort things out (it is just impossible).

10586.0 is known and for that reason OK.
10565 the same. 10074 the same.

Peter

PS:

You can obtain 10586.0 via a link I can give you by email (for people with a license for XXHighEnd 2.xx. and notice that Windows 10 is only supported by 2.xx (1.xx won't run under W10)).

Hi Peter,

Your opinion for people w/out W10 RAM OS, stick to W10074 or perhaps move to W10586.0 ?

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

This is really hard to tell because I used 10074 before the Intona and was fine with it. 10586.0 sounded like a drag. After the Intona 10586.0 is suberp and 10074 doesn't cut it any more. Not for me ...

So this is not especially about the RAM OS Disk, which I myself used long before the Intona already.

Peter
