136  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Re: 24/96 demo track for download on: May 15, 2008, 10:59:05 am
You never heart such heavily distorted music exactly as distorted as it is supposed to be Happy

When I finally was able to play the cleaned wavfiles (via db Poweramp) I didn't like it either and quickly removed the files.

The hirez music I buy from iTrax and Linn is pretty nice however.

And it worked, just as the doctor ordered. Thanks.

thanks for that advice, I will try dbPowerAmp to clean the file.

I have downloaded it, but I get "Unrecognized WAV header data'' as error message. Tried it twice but the problem is still there.

Never saw this one. I allways seem to miss replies to my own posts. I send you the requested file the same day by pm,  but it probably did not arrive.

Hi Peter, sorry to bother you on your holiday. But I want to use my laptop for a demo of XX to a group of audiophiles (official invitation after all my bragging about the SQ) and as I still did not get XX working with my original activationcode for the laptop I bought another one (code not laptop). The Paypal part worked allright but no mail with activation code appeared. Could you get me a fresh activation code, if feasible before the 12th of May ?

regards,
Leo

I still get the activation failure, with both activation codes Happy
Very strange, I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what.
143  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Activation does not work anymore ! on: April 17, 2008, 07:51:06 am
But that is what I did, putting it in the existing XX folder, as I have done it a lot of times before, using new versions, using a different engine3 etc. It is a routine for me now. I did have an error however about a file that was still in use. I redid the procedure but still into ther same folder. Could that error plus retry have corrupted the 'undemo'status ?

I got  a strange error when trying  the new Engine 3 with my duo core laptop for the core appointment tricks (normally I use another PC, my  single core main music pc). At start up of XX it mentioned that I could not set core appointment when in demo mode, and indeed I was treated a a demo client from then on by XX. Reactivating with my code again does not work  either. Any suggestions how I could solve this ?

I am sure you will
146  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: U12 and Priority on: April 06, 2008, 12:53:31 pm
But the quad box is greyed out when DAC is set at 96kHz Happy
147  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: U12 and Priority on: April 06, 2008, 12:22:24 pm
I missed that part of the release notes. Now it is solved by the Thread priority at Below Norm, and I can play with Realtime. Thanks.

And the other point about replay speed was caused by the FF which had as masterclock and still at 44.1 kHZ. Blush. Excuse me.

So I only miss the possibilty to go to quad upsampling with U12....

148  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: U12 and Priority on: April 06, 2008, 11:24:35 am
When I set the DAC in XX to 24/96 it will play but at half speed, with my Altman at 44.1 kHz. The Altman will not recognize the data at 88 kHz The Altman dac rate has to be switched by hand.
Before I could even get 176  kHz with quad upsampling , with the same files and equipment.

I played before as long as you included the possibilty with Player prio at Realtime and Threadprio Low. U12will just not start to play, even when I wait for minutes, after I while I get the message that XX did not start within expected time. One step down respectively up for both prio's will give me music again. I never had this before as far as I recall. Also the single core PC will have lot's clicks and stutters at Q1 -2, it has to be higher  to have uninterrupted music. I now play with setting  14
149  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / U12 and Priority on: April 06, 2008, 10:24:44 am
G'day Peter,

with U12 XX will not start anymore for me with realtime and low as priority settings (both with Vaio double core and Asus single core pc). I have been able to use the realtime and low settings as far as I can remember. Now I have to luse the less éxt'reme settings. So is u12 more demanding for the PC ?

Also when I (secretly of course) try to upsample I get that upsampling is not possible for 88.2 files and I get this with just standard 44.1 wav files.
I know you don't believe in upsampling but these are strongarm politics for sure Peter.

150  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: u10 vs. u8 on: April 04, 2008, 12:20:36 pm
How do you notice ? well, very easy, you can't play that loud. How do you *really* notice ? even more easy : because your wife tells you it's too loud. To give an indication of the difference : I played at -24dB since the Digital Volume, once we all got used to the level of -30dB (per night), and now I play at -36dB and maybe I switch to -30dB. It just gets too loud otherwise. Not harsh, not disturbing, but just too loud. How can that be ?

Apart from quite some pages in order to (the attempt to) reason it out which I did one year ago, it can't. I mean, take out your dB meter and measure. There is just no difference. Mind you, this is about super transients, which possibly won't be caught by my slow meter. Still I set my volume 6dB lower, if not 12 ...

This quote from you Peter exactly describes what I experience with the latest version. If I hadn't read your comment  before I would have made a post about what you had done to the volume. I had a similar experience with foobar (in the old days) with a german Asio driver that I had bought. I liked that driver a lot better than other ASIO drivers I tried. And it was much louder in my perception than other Foobar implementations.

Very interesting stuff this.
