Title: Aiff and HDCD encoded disk and 0.9z
Post by: Suteetat on May 29, 2010, 04:24:43 am
Currently all my files are in aiff format. When I play HDCD endcoded materials, I still get apple logo and no HDCD logo.
Also 4x oversampling with arc prediction still works with those tracks. I understand that oversampling is not supposed to work with HDCD at this time. My DAC also registered that it receives 24/176 data. Unfortunately I  don't have my Berkeley DAC anymore so I can't check if HDCD light will light up on the DAC or not when I am not using oversampling.

O dear, another combination not thought of ..
Yes, I guess that I first look whether it's HDCD encoded, and then convert to WAV. But HDCD in AIFF isn't recognized ... (like it isn't in FLAC/MP3). So, this has to be done the other way around.

The remainder of wat you saw is (also) correct, because now it's just no HDCD and thus doesn't skip the upconversion. Lucky you. :)

Will fix it !

Actually I used to keep everything in flac and use mediamonkey to sync to my ipod for music but lately I had not had much luck with mediamonkey so I decided to go back to iTune for my portable player.
I also find that Aiff offer slightly better sound than flac so I kept everything in aiff for now.

Sorry can you clarify what this means, as I have some FLAC encoded HDCDs and haven't been able to play them in Arc Prediction mode. Are we only able to play them in Anti image or  Linear mode?

No ... With that I wanted to say that first those formats need conversion to WAV, and only then the HDCD flag can be recognized.
I didn't test MP3 but it should work, FLAC works, normal WAV works, and AIF(F) I forgot about, and that does NOT work at the moment.
In the next version it will.

Although the playing itself should work, the actual Arc Prediction Upsampling does not. You can't see that without output rate indication.
So ... what exactly do you mean ?
