Title: Turn of the light
Post by: RX1 on April 03, 2008, 01:53:24 pm
I play using a laptop -> usb -> hagbUSB -> S/PDIF -> DAC. If turning of a light bubl (even the one in my refridgerator), my dac mutes. This happens even if PC is on battery. Does anybody have a idea how to prevent this from happening?

:rofl: ... or maybe you didn't think it is funny. :innocent:

Assuming you are using Vista : this is one of the great features of Vista :nea: (Active Sensing or something like that). I have that when I switch of my amps. Or better, I *had* that with the former amps I had.

I assume this is a matter of earthing somehow, and you must try to trick Vista. IOW the powerdip (or peak, whatever) should be detoured to something you DAC can't notice.
Like with me, it will be your amps passing through the "click" (I think that can be proved by the battery operation still suffering from it).

If all is right, you can see it happening by the device just disappearing (or getting into unavailable status) from the list of sound devices (rightclick on spekar icon and "list of devices") when it happens.

If this is not Vista, then I don't know.

Hmm - I am a bit uncertain about how vista knows I am closing the door to my fridge, but I can try watching the device when I come home. Could it be my PC also want's a beer?

I have used my DVD via same cable and DAC. Also with this equipment I have had DAC muting, but far more seldom. So it was when changing to PC I found out, turning of nearly any light between PC and electricity inlet (to house) interfered. Because of this I thought it might have something to do with cables, rf-noice or other forms of voodoo

You aren't telling that your DAC is *not* in the fridge, do you ?
AFAIK we all have our DACs in the fridge. Try it !
It might solve your mute problem too.

Can't your supplier help on this ? It might be a known problem for the DAC ...

I will check with the dealer to see if they know.

Using DVD I am not able to provoke any muting, but something makes it happend occasionally - as I said.
With XX, I can improve situation by moving HagUSB around different spots in my livingroom(!), but I can not get totally rid of the problem - quite interesting! I might ask producer here as well.

I might as well put myself in the fridge and see what happens then....

:)

Anyway, I am serious about Vista and the (jack) sensing. Try to plugin headphones, and you'll see they become available as a device. Plug 'm out, and it's gone again. I head similar with my DAc by means of switching of the amps.
This never happened in XP.
