In Vista SP1. This only happens sometimes and not as far as I can see in regular intervals. This pertains to the V6a version. Sometimes this creates so big a crash that the PC has to be restarted.

Have tried different settings for PlayerPrio up to and including AboveNormal, maybe it became SOMEWHAT more stable but the error crops up inbetween now and again anyhow.

Suggestion?

Have not changed any settings beyond the ones listed in my signature, no. "Split file..." thats in W3 right? Didn't change anything like that. Removed W3 now and only using v6a ATM.

Btw...having some VERY good SQ here now from v6a! 

V6a sound better with Double and Upsample OFF, e.q. running 16/44 vanilla.

Extremely musical and organic, involving sound here now with v6a.

And again, only using plain .wav'es. No FLAC, MP3 etc.

Using the Intel 10ch controller with a 2xVelociraptor raid 0 setup for boot here myself.

Severed made a good point over: the v6a I'm using is definitely better sounding than W3 which I tried today. Have therefore gone back to v6a.

The W3 sounds closed-in and amputated in comparison. See full info in thread under SQ-section.

Have not tried SSD yet here, but frankly...don't think it's there the difference lies. More your use of another controller card Peter, maybe.

Try to hook it directly to the Intel 10CH.

And PLEASE try v6a instead of W...try to hear what I'm hearing here. Maybe it's not only me who's crazy...

Have been using v6a so far. Downloaded W3 tonight. What the he.. happened to the sound?
The whole register doesn't expand like the older version.
The whole thing sounds closed and kind of amputated, the music doesn't "breathe". Almost like there's an dynamic limiter active. Peter, you haven't gone overboard on your "standing wave war front" ? Something is not right...

Using .wav 16/44 standard EAC.

Gone back to v6a for my sake.

W3 lost a whole lot of "musicality" IMO.

Have not tried the versions between v6a and W3.

My 2 cents.

Finding that a combo of XX volumecontrol and preamp volume is necessary due to different recording sound levels on each album.

Som albums I run on 0db (full XX volume, works best with top of the line recordings with little compression) and some need 6-12db lower from XX (usually the more compressed recordings with lousier quality).

Yup, there's no problem in adding another menu language afterwards in Vista through Windows Update. I can install like 20 different ones and easily change between them with a reboot afterwards.

Ah...nice. Soon no need for me to fish around for the mouse in the dark listeningroom... 

Looking forward to using only keyboard keys like F=Forward, B=Back (track skips), P= Play etc. Of course talking about Attended playback...no idea how you're going to solve unattended with no focused program running. Unsure if there's a standard for these keys, why don't you look at what MS MP 11 is using and use that as a standard. Then there's no need to reprogram MS's standard remote control system etc.

Try to up your Q1 setting to at least 7 and hear if you can detect any "clicks" or noise in the same tracks.
I have similar problems with Q1 around 0 +/-.

Btw., How's the new soundcard behaving?

Have used u13 a lot tonight. Recognize some diff. between SQ in Upsample and Double than before.

Upsample has a more pronounced low-tweeter output than only Double. Actually, I prefer only Double now opposed to also Upsample before version u13.

U13 sounds more "organic", with more equal frequency response across the whole register, without the low-tweeter expansion.

Double also IMO sounds better than vanilla 16/44. Using only WAV 16/44's EAC ripped.

I'm using a Premier on my frontend (DAC, Prosessor etc.). Very happy with the performance. Recommended product.

In addition, I'm using a couple of cheaper power filters on my PC in the basement (XX, Theatertek etc.) in addition to a nice Furutech powercable on the PC.

All of this power cleaners pull together in the same direction, giving better sound from the system.

One thing is for sure: Have not earlier heard this degree of transparency into the soundstage on earlier versions. That is a new high with this u12 version. Everything is so fu..... "clear"... 

Seems everything about phase is ok, everything is in the right channel etc...he, he...seems "all the bits" is finally where they belong... 

Wishing only for some more "warmth" in the bass and mid...if possible...more solidity (more bass...).

Btw., not hearing so much difference between 44 or 88Khz playback with u12. Everything is a little better with 88Khz, bass goes a little deeper etc. but not so huge a diff.

Re. the host error above:

Doesn't happen everytime, but also happens during playback, often after clicking next for the next song. Also sometimes happens without anybody doing anything.

 

On the plus side, with this setting, the soundstage is HUGE! and the bass foundation is good but maybe not as good as u8's bass. (This is with upsample ON, without it's smaller in all dimensions and the bass is "rounder" and "kinder" without the same impact).

I therefore prefer the Upsample mode for 44/16 WAVs. But that's just me...ha, ha... 

Actually, transients seem a little more "clear" and "crisp" than earlier versions? Any comment? Still in Upsample mode...
