Title: So, a Juli@ doesn't dig KS, right ?
Post by: PeterSt on January 17, 2010, 01:58:03 am
WRONG.

My thought was : this can't be so. So I investigated a little, Googled for my theories, and here you go ...

1.
Uninstall the current driver from Device Management for both Juli@ Audio and Juli@ Controller under Sound Video and Games. Denote "remove from PC".

2.
Reboot.

3.
Unzip the below zip to a place you will be able to find it back later.

4.
This part is a bit twirky, but probably just Windows 7 (because I saw similar before) :
Install the Juli@ again from the Unknown Multi Media Controller (and not from the Sound Video and Games section -> won't work).
Notice that this Multi Media Controller only shows up when the Juli@ is without driver, and probably when you applied a Search for new devices (from rightclick on the top node (your PC Name).
Also notice that you will be needing an "Upgrade Driver" option, and at first it is not there. I am still not sure what it takes to get it there, but it will be there at "some stage". To keep in mind : I passed a stage where W7 tried to install the device on its own, which will fail because you removed the drivers from the system. This pass may be needed in order to get that Update Driver option there. "Search for new devices" should get you into that pass, but I don't know anymore.

5.
Manually denote the driver's place (where you unzipped below zip).

6.
Run the JuliPan exe (from the zip).

7.
Start XXHighEnd and find yourself with 3 nice KS devices. I think Ch34 will be the one you're normally looking for (since Ch12 works for me which is "Loudspeakers").

8.
Of course you can't wait trying, but maybe spend some time in renaming the 3 "Loudspeakers (Juli@ Audio)" devices, where one of them will be the one needed for Engine#3. Don't expect the first one to be the one you used to use. I renamed them from top to bottom, the first into Loudspeakers-1 (which moves to the bottom because of that) the second one into Loudspeakers-2 (also moves to the bottom) and the third one into Loudspeakers-3;
Notice this is necessary in oder to let play the good ol' Engine#3; when all are called the same you can only select "one" of them (whichever it is).
In my case Loudspeakers-2 are the same as the before one "Loudspeakers" showing. It seems that Loudspeakers-1 is the SPDIF one (but notice my sequence of renaming) and the remaining one (double bonus) will be the 4 channel SPDIF version, not available before.

Anything else ?

Don't start with those baco's then ! (which means Bacardi Coke here).

Did it for you both anyway (and others I don't know of ?), and it's nice to see it's picked up upon within the hour.
Have a nice day !

Got it working on SPDIF out now  :)

Note: It needed the 0.9y-5-01 update though for the KS devices to appear.

Back to comparing apples and apples !

Ta,

Russ

Roy, what exactly happens ?

To make this somewhat more complicated ...

I now think Kernel Streaming much depends on the driver. This driver again makes all sound different; If you look at the cpu behaviour ... very different also.

With this driver I'm not sure I like it 100%. Things seem more metal. Too fresh. More towards the sound of W7 I like less (for Engine#3).
An added something.

But this is just my impression after one day.

PS: If things start to be dependend on drivers ... that is no fun.

I have uninstalled Juli@ drivers........
extracted new drivers to folder.
when I want to update from that folder,

I get this screen....

Maybe this won't go for the 64 bit OS. Everything else you did looks good to me.

What about the first (!) available 64 bit driver for XP ?

I Already tried an XP64 driver yesterday but no luck.

Juli-lovers,

Ok, after I knew it worked (by now for AUDIODIDAKT too, as I understand from another topic), I went back to the original (latest) drivers.
Followed the kind of same procedure as I described earlier.

Now I discovered that the "Auto" (sample rate) setting doesn't work anymore. This, while before I never could dictate a specific sample rate.

Does anyone know how to deal with this ? Before I always tried (reinstalling etc.) to get the fixed rate working, and I never succeeded. No problem in the end. Today I obviously want it to be the other way around (auto-select), which *is* a problem if not working.

These drivers (1.07) obviously aren't quite up to the (Vista/W7) job, also looking at the only 2 devices showing, while 4 are actually in there (the Ch34 and Ch1234 additionally).

?
Peter

(see below, where the "Auto" box is White and can't be changed to (active) Red; before (1.07 as well as 1.21) it always has been Red, and couldn't be changed)

Ugh,

I got it working by using the right drivers, but there are more drivers to test. (Juli@-x2v-v0_974 is the one working now)

Oops..........
I have same experience, before I couldn't select sample-rate, with older (for kernel) drivers I can.
But didn't go back to newest drivers yet, will try today.
I have too,

Thats for sure, I canīt use the card for watching HD-movies (DTS 1536 for eg.) anymore.
Having 1 PC to work with, this is not a nice thing, but haven't tried all options yet.

Kernell is a bit tedious, xx works less responsive, lots of work to be done there.
Lots of listening to do also, this will keep us all busy for several weeks, I guess.
There is no better or worse (at least not for now), it becomes a new and open project, so please keep sharing your experiences.
You don't make it easy on yourself (or us) Peter !
Hope you find time to get all things done as you were hoping, referring to NOS1 too. (although this is not completly up to you, depending on other people and sources)
How is setting-up web-shop ?

And for me, less time on audio, more on finding a decent Job.
Writing like 5 letters and applications a day.
Work in construction completely dried out (and will remain so for 2 or 3 more years to come), so I have to find something else.
Career switch ? I don't think I see the construction anymore by that time I finished my basic-electronics course and maybe some Visual Basics.
Maybe will go for software development or something like that, don't know for sure, were it will leads me.
Suggestions always welcome !

Roy

Thanks for the above post.  I was able to get digital output with Engine4 and my Juli@ using the driver mentioned above on my Vista64 computer. I had assumed I was limited to analog output from my Juli@ and Engine4 and without this guidance never would have tried switching from my previous v1.04 driver.

I'm glad that this works but with so many possible drivers I am starting to wonder not only which driver works but which driver provides the best sound.  Is this something I need to explore or would I be wasting my time?

Now I need to explore whether I can get Engine4 and my Lynx AES16 card to work together under Win XP.  Any recommendations that may save me time would be appreciated.  I look forward to spending serious time listening instead of configuring and I really appreciate the opinions of those who seem to know what works with XXHE and what sounds best.

Hey Robin H,

Maybe try the Juli@-x2v-v0_978 drivers, these work on a 64bit OS. (for 32bit OS ???)
Don't know if these drivers are acually better, but you can always try.
I prefer these from all that I can get to work with KS.
But I also prefer this driver with #3Engine,
You can do a little test for yourself compare driver v1.04 vs v0_978 with Engine#3
And compare v0_974 vs v0_978 on both engines.
Don't forget to play with the latency setting of the juli@ panel this seems to be important for SQ.
Try 48 and 2048 samples!

I think you will be surpriced about what drivers and latency can do to SQ!
