Title: new GUI!
Post by: JohanZ on May 26, 2010, 12:55:48 am
Hi Peter,

Still using the 8" touch screen. I can't find some buttons in 09z:
  • Clear-button to clear the playlist
  • Off-button to switch off XXHighend
  • Checkmark for unattended mode
Please put some pictures in your release notes.
(I'am not sure if your GUI is an improvement, not for a 8" lcd screen)

Regards, Johan

Hey Johan,

Clear is "Eject" hence the button with the arrow pointing upwards.
Off is still available but far away at this moment. Just cross away the form (ah, you knew that one :)).
Unattended is the middle button of the left three.

All still anticipates on 640x480.

Peter

Overall is cool. But:
- confusing at first (couldnt find the gallery!) but when you get used it's a nice improvement.
- the buttons and text are way too small. This is exactly the opposite as what i expected. Try to see it at 1920x1200 and uou'll understand. I had to rely to the slow see below) tooltips to know what the hell every button was (except the config, play and stop which were obvious).
- Text too small in buttons and gui (ok in the help panel)
- Too much emboss makes the leds seem on and white, when they are off.
- tooltips take to long to appear, same applies for the help text in the middle panel when activated. But this can be related to the general slowness i experience.
- again please remove the transparency below the title bar.
- minimize, maximize and exit buttons on the upper right corner should have some picture in the off state, it's confusing as of now.

Telstar is right about about the sluggyness,
xx is very slow, to select and play an album takes ages, I really mean dead slow.
And when xx finally plays a track, it just stops when track is finished.................

But I sure love the looks and sound coming from it

Here too, I believe you of course, but elaborate as much as possible, just because I don't recognize it at all.
Btw, I use Scheme-3, and this sure WILL matter. I am not saying that you must Scheme-3 from now on, but I have to now exactly what is slow where.

Just give me one example to start with. Like the "select" you mention. How do you percieve that "select" as being slow ? what exactly happens ? don't forget what might be happening in the right pane !

Thanks.

I will read your notes a couple of times extra first.

But ALL is slow, like a curtain of sluggyness fell upon xx.
I will elaborate in details later.

Why does xx places the XXAnalysis.dat file in the album folder I play ?

You'd rather have it in the Program Files folder ? :) :)

IOW, I don't understand the question.

Not really needed from what I read in your complaints. But there is a small list of issues at the end of the normal Release Notes (I don't mean those right at the bottom).

Ohhh! Gotta remove it and try right now :)
UI isnt sluggish anymore now.

But the playback still start a bit later than with the previous version.
i put a single track (using explorer, since i couldnt find the gallery), clicked on play button and waited 3s instead of about 2s.

Hey Peter. I really like the new gui. Took some sorting out but I think I've got most of what I regularly use figured out.

One of the things that I noticed was that XX is much faster at loading songs into memory and beginning play. (Scheme 2)Its lightening fast here. I made sure from the first set up that logging activities was turned off.

One issue I've noticed is that there is no way to get back to a currently playing playlist, if you've left that screen, without reloading the playlist. There is just no button for "playlist" like in the other versions. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong?

The sound is Sweet too!

Roy , clear playlist is the arrow pointing up. Load is the one pointing down. I don't see a button to go to currently playing playlist.

Load is the one pointing down. I don't see a button to go to currently playing playlist.

Doh, that one has the led always on and if i click it duplicates the track in the playlist (while playing).

Please, Peter add tooltip and help entries for all buttons.

Telstar,

In the pane were you see the play and stop buttons, right under button in that pane is gallery button.

I found it, but it took me a good read of the release notes to understand :)

Just got the new version. Nice looking but it will take a bit to get used to.
Quick question, is there an adjustment for q1-5 somewhere? I don't seem to
find one. Also with my computer, the older version in adaptive mode, I can get
by with buffer of 512 but the new version, I need buffer to 1024 to keep all the crackles
away.

To Suteetat,

In the pane were you see the play and stop buttons, right under button in that pane is gallery button, next to it is the button
that shows q sliders. (well no sliders, but knobs)

Okay, found the currently playing playlist button! Its the musical note in the upper left corner of the center screen.

I would recommend that this button be moved down in the play, load, clear button area. It's a little confusing having it "way" up there.

Maybe putting the playlist button right in the center above the counter would look cool!

Audiodidakt, thanks, I found it.

Post by: Suteetat on May 26, 2010, 02:35:52 pm
Hmmm... interesting, once I got adjusted q1 to 1 from the default 0, now I am able to go down on buffer all the way to
32 without any crackling in both special and adaptive mode. Not something I was able to do with previous version.

hehe,

Nobody will go unattended anymore with such a great looking GUI, whether this is a good thing ?
 :good:

Still room for improvement, but, great looks for an ever greater piece of software !

YOU ARE THE BEST  :dancing:

Can't access the playlist button if the GUI isn't fully opened, which I don't always do (expand the GUI) cause I'm addicted to substance not form, though this new form be beautiful  :)  and I love the sound of Unattended.

But to me it seems that or you can drag the right border of the form to the right, or drag the splitter bar (i.e. the right border of the middle pane) to the left, and *then* drag the right border of the form to the right.

Or ?

Of course, you are correct. Wasn't thinking with all the new buttons to push!

wow, every album played gets that file placed in the folder.

I assumed you knew this already (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1214.msg11005#msg11005) but I must also admit that while this is in there for over 6 months, you would only notice it at using the Normalized Volume.

The XXAnalysis.dat file is meant for more (future) purposes, and it stores whatever data belonging to the album, so it doesn't need to be collected again. For example, calculating the Normalized Volume takes time. But once the result is stored in the .dat file, it is retrieved from there and won't take time at all anymore.

Ok ?

Peter

Problem with the reading of the menu options after a right click in the Gallery structure. White characters in a silver background colour.

Does anyone else has this problem that I have? In attended mode,
when I have album art displays on the right panel, if I select only one track from an album, it shows up ok.
However, if I have more than 1 track from the same album in the playlist, as soon as the second track from the
same album is played, the album art became blurry/pixelated.

Yes, it is known. I must admit though that only last Saturday or so I found out it is about the cacheing of the "thumbnails". So, I do something wrong with that. Next, I didn't have the time to solve it before this version going public.

If you set the Thumbnail Cache to 1, the problem is not there. But you then will have a slow response on the Coverart, mainly in the middle pane.

Thank you for mentioning this Johan. I forgot about this one. N.b.: I tried to make all these "context menus" the same, but couldn't manage, so the internal ones I solved, but forgot about the external ones (like the one you showed).

The red indicator is burning when i have activated the button "Arcpredic" but when XX finished an unattended listening session (Alt-X or after the last track) the red indicator "Arcpredict" isn't active anymore. What caused this automatic reset? In version 09y it works ok.

That was already reported. But thanks.
It doesn't happen when you also activate PeakExtension.
