Title: 0.9z-2 Error message not solved
Post by: Eric on June 25, 2010, 08:51:46 pm
Peter,
I know it was you intention to solve the following problem in 0.9z-2. However, it still exists.

"
when working in the Library Area, I get te following message (in Dutch) on a regular basis. I guess this is the one you are referring to in the release notes of 09-z and it has to do with someting running in the background ?
Still, it is rather annoying to have to click the message away every time it appears. BTW: playback is not disturbed.
Cheers, Eric.
"Er is een onverwachte uitzondering opgetreden in de toepassing. Als u op Afsluiten klikt, wordt de toepassing onmiddellijk afgesloten. De object verwijzing is niet op een exemplaar van een object ingesteld"
"

I hope you can determine the cause. Please let me know if you need more info from me.
Eric

Ok, thanks Eric.

Can you confirm this *only* happens when the treeview (left pane) has the XP look (for the nodes, see the +++).

But more importantly (and then your answer to the above will be No), is this the message with ".Net error" (or similar) in the title ?
If not, it is something else in the first place, and in that case you must try to explain about the how / when (/ why haha).

Thanks,
Peter

Peter,
yes the treeview has the XP look. I always see the XP look. What do you mean by the question if it *only* happens then?

A typical example in the library area: when I rightclick an album, cllick Load Individual Tracks in Playlist Area, rightclick to select a track, click, NOW THE MESSAGE APPEARS.

In the header of the message I see "XXHighEnd 0.9z-2" in blue (the same color as my wallpaper).
I hope this helps.
Eric

Ok, so that is something else then. I will try to mimic that.

When you always have the XP look (see below for the Vista/W7 look) I guess you don't have Themes on or so ?

Peter,
your picture of the tree is exacly what I see.
I did shut down many services, so that may be the cause of the problem !!
Themes however has been (Automatically) started.

Sorry, not quite,
the difference is the small boxes with the + sign in it.
That is the XP view.

Yep.

But what you have is quite another problem from what I described and solved. It will just be a stupid bug. No worries, I will solve it.

Peter, for your info:
the same message appears (twice) when I startup the computer and XXHE appears.
(I have AutoHK and XXHE being started automatically from the Startup)

Hi Eric. I have tried everything I can think of, but no errors here. Maybe there's something in the bolde click above, because that doesn't quite fit ... (at least not without telling what you click there).

Peter,
Here are some more details.
I rightclick an album, cllick Load Individual Tracks in Playlist Area. When I got the list of tracks, I click to select one (or select a few by using Ctrl+click), and now I rightclick the selection to get a pop-up menu, and I select "Select" from the menu. Now XXHE waits for the disk to spin-up. Then the tracks are loaded and now the message appears.

The same message also always appears when I Start XXHE. Note that the last line in the text says:  "De object verwijzing is niet op een exemplaar van een object ingesteld".

As I said before, my C-disk is now SSD. After that got installed some of my previous setting could have changed. Like the Services. If the errormessage does not appear in your setup, I guess I should do a reinstall of W7 and see if that solves it.
Cheers,
Eeric.

Ok, I tried exactly what you described (alreasy earlier). But maybe this spinup of the disk was not involved.
So, it would be correct that you let this loose on Gallery folders, right ?

No, also with the spinup involved it just works okay.

But those Plusses (XP look) ...
I tried that too, but the point is that this (now) operates in an expected environment, while in your case I doubt that. These plusses shouldn't be there ...

What you could do for checking whether this "plusses thing" actually causes it :
Start a track in Unattended mode. Now startup XXHighEnd again (this will be the situation you *will* have plusses (eh, when you told to shut off the Services in the Settings Area)), and if *now* you can't let it go wrong it will tell me much.

You could also try whether it makes a difference if you remove XXHighEnd from the Auto-start entries. That you have an error there also looks suspicious regarding the whole situation.

Peter,
interesting.
When I play unattended, bring up XXHE again, go to the Library area and start adding tracks as described before:
The error message does NOT appear.
All the time the music keeps on playing.

And Yes, I do use Gallery folder. It is a perfect way to find and play albums/tracks.

So, the error is caused by the two Explorer instances not being able to communicate. This by itself is caused by the "XP Mode" the XX Embedded Explorer runs in, and *that* will be caused by some service you have shut off.  I am not saying that you should try to find this service now etc., but I know what the cause is now.

This error doesn't happen when you start XX during playback, because there I anticipate on this problem - and can recognize it. How to recognize this in your normal situation ... I don't know. Probably can't ...

...

Okay, thank you very much.
I will find it.
Cheers,
Eric.

Well, that would be a good idea, because I can check for that service running or not (assumed it is caused by a service not running), and if not shut off the communication.

Thank you for your time, but don't make it too wild ...

Peter,
I found a way to Solve or (re)Create the problem. You can try it as well iof you like.
On the desktop, Rightclick on Computer and select (click on) Properties. Now click Change Settings and click on the tab Advanced. Now click on Performance Settings.

Now you are offered 4 options.
If you choose Automatic or Best Visuals (or something like that), the problem is gone.
If you choose Best Performance, than XXHE will show XP-like tree and the Error Message appears.

My next step is to play with Manual selections to find the best settings for me.

Cheers,
Eric.

The only option that needs to be switched ON is Apply Visual Styles.
If you do that, the XP style will not occur to spoil the party.

P.S. Not sure which Service is needed (if any).

No, I already knew that - no explicit service for it. But I think I can set the developers of that piece of software (which is extrernal) to solve this. At least with this information it should be easy now. But there's also a newer version of it available, and who knows it is solved in there.

As always, great thanks for your efforts.

Hi Eric,

I made the small mistake of first implementing a new version of the Embedded Explorer (hoping for the problem to go away), without before again testing how it goes wrong. I did that before allright, but I'm not 100% anymore whether I could copy the problem. I thought I could. Anyway, without now first testing it, I can only test it after this new install, and at least now I can't copy the problem. It may not say a thing though ... However, the problem at startup which was there before, but solved in 0.9z-2, for sure has gone. So, assuming both have the same origin (and I do), your problem here should be gone too.
But please check it when 0.9z-3 is there, okay ?

Thank you,
Peter

Sure, no problem!

Peter,
Per your request, I tested 0.9z-3 for this problem.

i) The error message has gone. GOOD!

HOWEVER
ii) Like before, if the option Apply Visual Styles has been switched OFF, the XP style will still occur.

Furthermore now NEW:
iii) If the option Apply Visual Styles has been switched ON, XP style will not occur initially. But after playing at least 1 track (unatteded) and XXHE comes back up:
the XP style will occur AGAIN. Very strange. Still 2 Explorer instances not being able to communicate ?

Cheers,
Eric

Eric (thanks and) this is normal and has nothing to do with "communicating" as such. It is just the "style" which is respected, and this is "Vista" or it is not. And, when XX is brought up at Unattended, it is not (the Services concerned are down at the moment of bringing up XX, and that part (Embedded Explorer) won't reset).
