Title: 0.9-z3 UxSms problem under XP
Post by: Marcin_gps on November 12, 2010, 12:41:25 pm
Peter, I tried slimmed XP today, but XXHE doesn't work. Here are the errors that showed up in this order. It looks like UxSms service (Desktop Window Manager Session Manager) is missing, but it doesn't exist in XP. Could you tell me what is the equivalent for XP? I must have overdone with nLite... The good thing is that OS responsiveness is miles better than Vista/W2008, ramdisk with PAE works great, if only I could 'hear it'.

Greets,
Marcin

Marcin,

I've been looking into these matters in the program, but at this moment I can only come up with that the name of the OS is "Vista like". This name is what normally shows in the empty Playlist Area (but for your situation you can't see it yet).

So, nothing is wrong regarding UXSMS (whicn indeed does not exist on XP), but the OS name must be wrong somehow (???).
In order to check this I've made a debug version for you; unzip the below XXHighEnd-09-z3-1 over your current XX folder on the XP boot, but save the old XXHighEnd.exe to another name first (the z3-1 is further useless). At startup it should show something like you see below. Whatever it is, make another of such beautiful helicopter pictures, so I can see what it is and how to adjust things (or whatever may come from it). After clicking away the message, the program will just stop.

Peter thanks for your help. I tried your debug version and it shows Win32NT. It doesn't work, but I tried on a regular XP and everything is fine, so it must be sth I did wrong.

What may be helpful for you to understand the problem: I can set everything, including output device (KS), but can't adjust the volume slider and after I hit the play button, "illegal sample rate" (or illegal bit depth, don't remember exactly) shows up.

Cheers,
Marcin

Title: Re: 0.9-z3 UxSms problem under XP - solved
Post by: Marcin_gps on November 14, 2010, 09:35:20 pm
:)  It seems that windows management instrumentation service has to be enabled in order to run XXHE properly. Now it detects OS as XP and plays fine, but I have other issue - OCX setup runs every time I start XXHE. (like it used to be in 0.9z2 under Vista) Deleting cfg files, removing OCX setup, manual registering - it won't help. ANy ideas?

Cheers,
Marcin

Hmm ... that should be because the "registration" won't end up in the registry. So, it checks whether it's there already, and when not the install runs.

See the key below. If that is there, all is fine.

It's there, but installation runs anyway.

Strange !

Could be about some "service" missing which won't allow (me) to access the registry ?

Or what about rights for that ?

Ok, don't be bothered about it for now (yes, of course it will). I mean, I can always make something that avoids the check and message, once it is clear that the install by itself worked.
Let's first see whether it's worth while to begin with !

Btw Marcin, for now ... just tweak that Setup.exe into something which doesn't do anything. I don't know what, but some empty .exe.

Ah, wait, xxsr.exe in your XX folder will be a good one. So, rename that to setup.exe and you're good (assuming the install itself worked allright).

Oh, one more thing ... I now see that the message "After this two harmless ..." will stay.

Oh well ...
Peter
