Title: H E L P !! - Driver Sweeping
Post by: PeterSt on December 22, 2010, 08:42:18 pm
Is there anyone out there who knows of a program that "sweeps" more drivers than ATI of nVidia ?

I have the most serious situation that I installed too many "soundcards" of the same type or something, and any next attempt just fails. This is like installing a next soundcard (which has another GUID) and it won't find the drivers which normally are there and work. Also, denoting the location of those drivers tells that no suitable drivers can be found for the device, which normally works perfectly well.

Up till a few hours back each before installed "GUID" would keep on working, but now that stopped too. This means that the device in question (Juli@) just is not seen anymore, so it can't be removed, uninstalled, upgraded, nothing. It's just not there.

Besides it will remain silent here tonight (grrr), I am totall stuck on testing NOS1 DACs and can't deliver ...

Btw, I thought to make use of a restore point I created day before yesterday, but *of course* this is not there today. Why ? I'm exploding here.

I don't know whether there's a limit somewhere, but I counted over 40 in the Registry, I think. When that's all gone, I hope that it starts working again. But how to remove it ? (there's no Install as such (.exe) for these ESI drivers).

I would be SO happy if someone can help out on this ...

Peter,

I'm sure by now the IT gurus on the forum will have fixed you, I can only point you to this site:

and hope it helps?

Hey Santa
Put me out of my misery, is my DAC back on test yet!
Did you sort out your test rig?
You appear calmer today!

Jack I am so sorry. I am not one single step further, except for just taking the decision to install a new OS somewhere. That still won't solve the general problem, but at least I will be able to test again. Well, that's what I assume, unless suddenly all DACs prevent from booting or otherwise, including my own.

So, desipite your good help (and of others, via PM too), I am nowhere. Done everything, but still nowhere.
Btw, there *is* a "10 devices" limit somewhere, and I had 10. Not anymore, but it doesn't help a bit.

Stupid computers ...

Hello
When you are back up and running, I suggest that you create a restore point and reboot to that before installing a new device each time. That way your os only 'knows' 1 device. Also you will not create a 'pool' of drivers to confuse. It could create a situation where a device could work on your pc but not on another without your driver pool to call on. Plus, of course you won't reach the magic 10!

Hey Jack - Yes, and thanks.

This was exactly what I was hoping for after having created a restore point 3 days back. But the G.D. restore point wasn't there when I thought of the same ...

Installing W7 now. :swoon:
Haha

Peter
Then that is another reason to go back to the restore point each time.
Then you know it's there before the sh*t hits the fan!
Not 3 days later....

Oh yes.

But don't forget the worst part of this all ... You could have had your DAC. I really hate this.
Anyway, a good lesson for the future.

As always, thanks.
