Title: 0.9Z-5
Post by: praphan on April 17, 2011, 06:29:55 am
Hi there,

New release has been available for download two days ago. Has anyone tried out yet ?

To me, after a quick listening, no significant change in SQ.  Will look forward to playing the next release says 0.9z-5-1 when Peter will push SQ to the next level making use of multicore processing.

Will report back further.

Haha, I perceive this "no single post in here" as a mile stone (it *never* happened), plus I expected it to be exactly like this. The "undesired" changes in SQ have been eliminated, and now if I claim no changes are there, well, really no changes are there I guess. At least that is what I hoped for !

But we already could see this coming, watching the remarks about 0.9z-4-1, not many disagreements being in there at all, no strange dial-ins from people, and hopefully all now more consistently behaving and maybe (maybe ...) nothing to long for anymore ...

Well, remove that tick in between tracks of course.

Peter

I have not had much chance to listen to 05 version just yet but I had a lot of problem installing it initially. Since I was being lazy, I did not upgrade the beta version of SP1 when official SP1 became available last month. I had all kinds of problem and error message when using 05 version. Unattended mode was also rather problematic and autohotkey did not work properly.

So it took me awhile to figure out how to remove sp1 beta and reinstalled the official SP1. After that, 05 version works perfectly well and I am quite happy with the result although that make it hard to compare to my old 0.4,1 version as now I have different SP1 installed. When I have time, I will reinstall 04.1 version and compare it but that wont happen for awhile yet.

Hi Doc,

Glad to hear that you sorted out those hassels over the weekend.

Nice stuff about z-5 is that you will see 8 LEDs at the top of the GUI. In my case, I see 12 !   Hehe

Is there any way to avoid wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Win7 if the RC uninstall file got deleted? Apparently, according to a google search, the uninstall file for RC is stored in a temp file which gets deleted with basic maintenance/cleanup!

I tried rolled back, remove software etc none of which worked.
However, after googling for awhile, a couple of sites suggested using command prompt. One command prompt did not seem to do anything much
but the other one worked like a charm and I was able to install official service pack.

If I am not mistaken, I think it was "wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:976932" while running CMD as administrator.

Hi Peter,

Yeah, I bought my Gulftown i7 970 from Newegg and had it shipped to my son in Ann Arbor. He then just mailed the chip to me arriving just one week after placing the order with Newegg. Intel dumpped the price of 970 significantly to differentiate it with the overclocker i7 980/990 Extreme. With the price cut, I also suspect that they are going to heavily promote Sandy Bridge line which will expand into 6 cores very soon.

By enabling HT in BIOS, converting the tracks is real fast !!

Thanks,
Praphan

Well, I have been listening to 05 for a while. So far I am impressed. It is a bit hard to pin down exactly the changes but I feel that the sound is a bit more liquid, very easy to listen to (with the same setting as 04-1), not that 04-1 was harsh or anything like that. Just seems that the music is more flowing, more relaxing without losing any detail or pacing. How muhc is due to 05 version vs service Pack1, I have no idea but I like what I hear so far :)

For anyone who's hearing a difference between 0.9z-4-1 and 0.9z-5, are you sure that the Q1 setting in 0.9z-5 isn't automatically being set to 14 from whatever setting you normally have? This would certainly change sound if (for the same device buffer setting) your Q1 setting is noramally much lower than 14.

Anyhow, this is what I seem to be experiencing. Anyone on 0.9z-5, please check and let me know if 0.9z-5 changes your Q1 setting. Cheers.

Mani.

Yes, I think Q1 was changed as I made some adjustment in setting but at the end, I went back and set Q1 back to 1 as it was in older version. However, my Q1 setting stayed at 1 and does not change back to default when reloading the program.
However in my case, there was also a switch between SP1 beta to official SP1 as well.

Chaps,

Just to get this right, I have to upgrade to the official SP1 before I can go to 0.9Z-5 and then switch HT back on?

Wasn't there some issue with the sound of the official SP1 or did that get sorted?

Sorry for not keeping up  :blush1:

hmmm... I am the nnly person so far that reported problem installing z05 with RC1. I am not sure if anyone else is having any problem.
As far as SP1, I think it sounds great, as long as clock resolution is kept high. At least now I don't have any urge to remove SP1 and go
back to RC1, but that's just me :)

Ok so the procedure is to try 0.9Z-5 with RC1 first and if that doesn't work go to SP1, with SP1 roll back all the auto update except SP1, remember to turn HT on and I should be good...  :thankyou:

Maybe I haven't been following what is going on, but whatever it is you think that may, it can't be related to any SP1 etc. on XX matters. Except for SQ of course, and there you shouldn't gamble. That is, I'll stick to my RC as long as it lasts and will see what happens after that (which should be November/December this year).

Sorry if I missed what this really is about !

Hello all,

I have been out of here for some time, now back again.
Moved from z3 to z5:
z5: agree it is more detailed and blacker at my system. Bass is more cloudy I guess, but in specific cases only. This all is WITHOUT ramdisk. Compared z3 on RAMDISK vs z5 on SATA drive. Almost no difference. I would say SATA case is more lively?

One problem: whenever I change dev buffer, Q1 jumps to 14 always? I set it to any other value, but next time I launch XX it is again 14. I am running w7 RC.

Ivo

Thank you Ivo.

The Q1 thing has been reported, but seems to bother a few only. Will be solved !

Peter
