Title: 0.9z-5 Q1 issue
Post by: manisandher on April 18, 2011, 12:37:50 pm
With 0.9z-5, my Q1 setting keeps on defaulting back to 14 whenever I start XX or resume to Attended from Unattended. The biggest issue for me is that I have no idea whether XX is setting Q1=14 before Unattended playback happens. Judging from the difference in SQ between 0.9z-4-1 and 0.9z-5, I think this may indeed be the case.

I first thought this might be related to the new data folder stuff, but I'm not sure this is the case - all other settings seem to work as expected...

Also, I really like the 'LAN on' button - great for NAS users like myself. However, it's a pain having to remember to click this after Unattended playback. Could this not just happen automatically? I mean, have a button for closing LAN services during Unattended playback, with the assumption that they would resume automatically once Alt-X is activated.

:offtopic: There seem to be some really interested developments on the PC, XX and NOS1 front, all of which I'm really excited about. Keep it up guys!

Mani.

Uh-oh ... I must look into it, but indeed I can expect to have made a mistake there (Q1).
But you really must tell me what Engine / Mode  you use.

Restarting the LAN automatically ... why not. But regarding your NAS, are you saying that you load tracks from there whuch further goes unnoticed while the LAN shuts down ? (I guess it is made for that, but I never really checked whether it works)

Thanks,
Peter

Hey, aren't you supposed to be on vacation?

Anyway, settings are all as in my signature, i.e. Special, etc... BTW, 0.9z-4-1 works perfectly, as it always has.

Hi Peter,

I suffer from the Q1 (set to 14) problem too - right now I am using 0.9z-5 Engine 3 (WASAPI) as my soundcard the SPDIF output / driver of my soundcard won't output anything using the Engine 4 (Kernel Streaming) setup. (I have not yet had the possiblity to change my signature to reflect that)

Sorry for not responding to this earlier.

All the best

Per

Thank you Per, and the most sorry for your problems ...

Guys, the more reporting this, the better it is;
Although I dont have access to the program for another week, at this time I really don't see ho this affects some. So, the more input, the better it is.

Per, when "time" permits, can you briefly describe why Engine#4 won't go ? I mean, I didn't hear that one up till now, unless you mean it is because of Q1 settings ...
Don't hurry with any answers !

Peter

No problem at all. I just keep Q1 at 14 as I cannot hear any difference through my low fi hifi ;) Hoping for something better when health permits me to bring together some of the stuff I have in my archive.

No, it does not have anything to do with Q1 settings - I just do not have any "KS" prefix in XXHE (no matter which version) when I choose SPDIF out in my Vista 32 / Audiotrak HD2 / Via Envy24 setup. Analog out from the HD2 soundcard is the only one that can play Engine4 / Kernel Streaming. But I (still) cannot go any higher than 44.1 / 24 bit  :scratching: Have tried to install the driver from Audiotrak (0.9xx something I think) but no way. (Will open a new thread on this when I have the strength to use time / energy on the issue)

But XXHE sounds great anyway - and I have to say that 0.9z-5 is running surprisingly well even with services shut down.

That's all for now. I will rest a bit...

All the best

Per

Thank you very much Per. If you're saying that with 0.9z-4 (etc.) all worked fine, I don't get it much. Maybe one small "yes" to confirm it worked before ?

Don't bother too much right now, I can't do anything anyway ...
Regards, also to the family !

For those who are bothered by Q1 reverting to 14 ... I wonder ...

What happens if you quit XX, delete the PresetLoader.XXSI file from your XX folder (and start XX again) ...
And if that doesn't help, what about again (stopping XX and) deleting that file, but now rename the SettingsReset.tss file to SettingsReset.tst (this simulates initial startup again) ...

Yes  Changed from Q1=4 to Q1=8 in 0.9z-4.1. Quit via "off". Started XXHE again ---- and sure enough - 8 is remembered... Same thing with 0.9y-8.

Lots of regards to your family too.

Hi Peter,

I tried this but it won't work for me, just no remembering of Q1 setting after rebooting XX, also the created name of the setting preset will not load automatically. Once loading this manually, the correct Q1 setting (and all other) will be loaded. This issue must be solved with latest release 0.9z-5-1, as you told here, hope it will come out soon... thanks.

Hi Peter,

I must say the not-saving Q1 setting problem seems to be solved with the current 0.9z-5-2 version. Thanks.

I have changed two times the Q1 value back from 14 to a lower value in version 09z-5-2. I had the impression that the save-setting didn't work not always works correctly but at this moment it seems to be working. A friend of me told me yesterday the same findings with this Q1.

Maybe not to forrget ...

What is new since 0.9z-5-1 (!) is that Q1 resets to default values according to the other settings (when they are changed). So, e.g. choosing Engine#3 will make the default 14. Choosing KS Adaptive Mode will set Q1 to 1. Choosing KS Special Mode will make it equal to the chosen Buffer Size. Change the Buffer Size (when Spcial is chosen), again changes Q1 to that value.
If all is right, sich implied changes come along with a message about it ("Check Q1 !"), but of course after seeing this message 10 times you won't see that anymore.

And : only since 0.9z-5-2 the self chosen settings are persistent (in 5-1 they were not because of a bug).

I hope it is clear !
