Title: 9z5-2 skipping through album tracks
Post by: boleary on June 17, 2011, 03:36:04 am
Went to play an album and first track started for a couple seconds,then skipped to second track,played a little then moved to another and another. If I only selected two or three tracks on the album they played fine.

And your A-B is off ?

Please read here : Re: Slider loses relation to track. (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1725.msg17283#msg17283)

Can't this be your case ?
(meaning : can you please watch for this phenomenon and see whether that could be the cause)

This issue doesn't seem related to the slider issue of the other thread. What's weird is, so far, I've only found it happening with two Cat Stevens albums: Tea for the Tillerman and his newest one. I ran a virus scan on the Cat Stevens folder and it was fine. I've tried a bunch of other albums and all works well. Attached are log files of Tea for the Tillerman skipping through the tracks.  Don't know if these will help. Let me know if you want to see the actual music files. Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

I have Tea for the Tillerman, but only in MP3. It doesn't seem a good idea to try it with that one. So ...

But if possible, please describe what you saw happening with the one you hopefully are going to send me.
I don't see anything in the log files at looking briefly, but that's also because I don't know what to look for (like "track 1 one stopped after 12 seconds and then track 3 started"). Then I could look for that 12 seconds and I'd know where to look.

Notice : I have seen something like this happening here, but couldn't punt my finger behind it. It was about FLAC, and only went away after clearing the "cache" (with that little button at the bottom with the cross). So, that helped, but then I couldn't repeat it anymore. It felt like the FLAC conversion somehow going wrong.
It also looks like the problem (I think) Chris reported about the track reported as 9 seconds while it actually was several minutes (he sent the track to me). In my case though I saw no anomalies about the reported track length (time).

Ok, thank you for sending those couple of tracks. Indeed, they are just "wrong" ...

You can check for this yourself by allowing it to normalize the volume; the error message will be right into your face. :yes:

As you will remember, I solved various errors by now from WMP rips and at this moment I am not sure to what extend to continue this. It is not much about "But Foobar works !" because those guys can work a lot more simple in the first place (it's one environment, while here there are two) and secondly of course there's more development power overthere. But merely ...
... As you will recal, solving these kind of things may end up in static when I'm not very careful, and all has to be done from a theory without logic (because the filesd *are* wrong). I'd rather let the errors occur ... (and that is not much commercial, I know).

Btw, if you don't apply the Volume Normalization, in Attended they just play. But already not when you start the track in the middle, and not before you first cleared the cache (that little button with the cross) when it didn't play at first.

Let me know if you have too many albums ripped like this to be ignored by me ...
:)

Peter

PS: I now see that you removed that WMP vs. DBPoweramp text ?? of course my text above was based upon that ...
(but I honestly wondered how that would fit "his newest" story)

Edit : No, of course not ... that was in your accompanying text with the sent tracks. So, the last line above still holds.

Peter, thank you so much for putting any time into this and, please, don't spend anymore on it. When I realized what type of file it was I probably should not have sent it to you. Overtime, I've been replacing all of those WMP rips I actually spend time playing. I've done most, but there's still a few out there. That this arose now just means its time to rerip these two albums.

Promise, I'll try not to let that happen again.  :)

But it's no problem to investigate it ! It's only sad that so many different things can go wrong with those WMP rips.

Btw, I didn't try it, but I'm fairly sure if you "Copy to FLAC" these albums (just from within XXHighEnd) they will be good after that.
Easy to try for me, but I must sneak back into bed right now first. Fathers day you know ...

:)

Hi Peter, as it turns out I have more tracks than I thought sprinkled throughout my playlists with Windows Media Player ripped wave files. Though I do intend to rerip them that is an ongoing project. Until 95-5 I was able to play them. Would be great if the bug could be fixed when you have the time to look into it. I'm not in a hurry at all. If it's just too much of a pain to do so, that's okay too; I'll just have to speed up my reripping.

Tea for theTillerman ...

Can you tell me what your settings are regarding the skipping of the tracks after playing a few seconds ?
I found a problem regarding this (plays 2 seconds or so), but what I'd need from the log files is not in there.

Focus on :

1. Attended Y/N;
2. Copy to XX Drive Y/N;
3. Do not Start Playback at all Y/N;
4. That you are sure still having a .WAV like the example you sent me (during the running of this topic).

I'm fairly sure that ever back I could just copy your problem, but not so anymore. It would be a good idea if you'd sent your log files along with your coming up description (well, that's what I hope).

Thanks !
Peter

1. Unattended
2. No
3. No
4. see below

Attached are the log files. Interesting, I just tried this and it seemed to work. First three tracks played fine, then I hit "Alt N" and it started again. Weird. After Alt N only the first track would play correctly and it would skip through the rest of the tracks. I then tried another WMP rip and it skipped through all the tracks.

Thanks for thinking about this! But, please, don't let its solution hold up the release of Z6.  :)

Right. This is what I liked to hear.

It goes wrong once the files have been transformed to proper (headered) files and then play them again. Thus (e.g.), Play Unattended, Stop, and Play again (first track, any track).

So, solved !

Thanks for your help !!
Peter

Still skipping through WMP rips, even after stopping and restarting as you suggest. No hurry, if ever.... :)

No, not "even then", but just in that case !

Anyway, so it is not solved. Hmm ...

What happens when you clear the cache when you click that little x button near the bottom ?

Notice : It should not matter a thing according to your description as of now.
