Title: Buffer Setting Question
Post by: lasker98 on September 21, 2011, 04:43:00 pm
I'm confused about what value I should be entering in "Device Buffer Size".
I'm using an SOTM USB to S/PDIF converter to feed my Bryston DAC which has a maximum input of 24 bits, 96 kHz.
In the USB driver control panel for the SOTM, there are two different buffer settings. These are "Streaming Buffer Size" which is set at 16 milliseconds and "ASIO BUffer Size" which is set at 32 milliseconds.
Which of these corresponds to "Device Buffer Size" asked for by XXHighEnd? I'm using Kernel Streaming.
To convert milliseconds to samples, is it correct to divide sample frequency by milliseconds? For example 44100/16 = 2756 samples?
Do I enter the value for "Device Buffer Size" in XXHighEnd based on a 44100 Hz sample rate? Or, if upsampling in XXHighEnd to 96000 Hz, do I need to set "Device Buffer Setting" based on that sample frequency?
As you can tell, I'm pretty much clueless as far as understanding all this different terminology.
I hope someone can help with this. I'm currently trying to get a response from the manufacturer to this question but i thought I would try in here as well.

Thanks,

Bill

I think I can help you with this Bill. But if I am right you have a special situation there which may remain unique to you forever. It may be a bit "bashing", which I don't like to do much in the open (sometimes I do, but not today :)).

So I will send you an email, ok ?

Peter
