Title: Random skips/stutters 0.9-z6
Post by: crisnee on September 22, 2011, 08:26:56 am
Hi Peter, An odd intermittent problem. Suddenly out of seemingly nowhere a track will skip and stutter fairly loudly for a second or three and then go back to normal. It might continue on normally for the rest of the session, or it might do it again in 15 minutes or 30 and then continue on nicely, with no ill effects (except on my nerves if the music had put me in a nice reverie).

Chris - if you listen (more) closely, does it sound like parts of that stutter period is like the chipmunks ?

I recall something like this from back then (W7 vanilla) - IOW, can it be so that this is since Vanilla ? Or can you sufficiently say that now having it "all the time" while being on Vanilla like 4 days or whatever it should have happened sooner ?

Peter

For the first time I heard what Chris is describing this morning--about two minutes ago. It sounded like the needle skipped on a record player from someone jumping up and down in the room. It only happened once but it was like no other tick or click I've ever heard with XX.

Had similar effect with the previous version of XXHighend I used. Sometimes (about once/5 hours play) there is the sound of a jackhammer for a couple of seconds. I'm really happy that I still use a preamp.
Maybe the same effect?

No chipmunks, but the other thought of how to describe it I had was the same as Boleary's skipping needle on disk.

Jackhammer might be a bit strong, unless you really had the sound blasting I suppose.

What I talk about, I would describe it as a scratching sound. Like jamming the tone arm from the turn table from start to finish in a couple of seconds. But it does not bounce.

Of coure this is my first attempt to build a software turn table ...

:swoon:

Ah... That sounds pretty gruesome.  :stop:  I don't think you have it down quite yet though. But keep working on it, it'll be a real first, not like one of those boring dacs that everybody's coming out with.

Just got the auto reverse of this running !
Sadly at the outside it jumps off. Must can it or something, but I'm afraid of canned sound now. Must think.

I have the same problem with the KS Mode: Special

"Adaptive" works fine

You mean with that Weiss from your signature ?

Yes, the WEISS.

I had all the time problems on my PC with the KS mode - Special, except with 0.9-z6 and the NOS1 with the minimized OS.

By the way, the NOS1 is enroute to you for the update and I hope to get him back before "Christmas 2012".

best

Joachim

I saw the Weiss in your signature, but thought it may be in error. But something like a Weiss won't go as far as you want. This is Firewire stuff.

Mani may tell what the limits are.

What I recall is KS and 384 or something, but it needed some special arrangement (??) of the Control panel first. I forgot.

Peter

PS: Christmas is fine. As long as you don't live near Frankfurt (didn't that take two weeks ?) we will send it back at the 22nd or so.
