Title: Great Live Jazz & another Stonking Jazz Album
Post by: Scroobius on January 22, 2012, 02:02:10 pm
Hello all jazz lovers!!

Last night I went to the Bulls Head in Barnes and listened to Peter King who must be one of the best alto sax players in the country and probably the world with him was Steve Melling on piano and I have to say I was blown away with his piano playing one of the best jazz pianists I have come across.

Anyway after the gig we had a brief chat with Steve Melling and the other musicians and I ended up buying "The New Couriers - Brazilian Thoroughfare" with a fantastic line up of Martin Drew, Jim Hart, Mornington Lockett, Steve Melling, Paul Morgan.

Martin Drew is one of my all time favourite drummers and he leads the New Couriers. Drew played with Oscar Peterson for years and produced many top quality albums. Drew's driving style with mighty fine brush work is unmistakeable. Mornington Locket's playing is mighty fine as well. The album is a live recorded album and the recording quality is really top quality. If you love quality jazz this album in my humble opinion is one of the very very best.
