Title: Play settings for M2Tech Young DAC
Post by: jrocha on January 28, 2012, 08:33:20 pm
Hi,

I have a M2Tech young DAC, does anyone have suggestions for the settings of XXHighEnd . I tried the up-sampling to 384kHz+ arcpredicted in KS mode but the sound seams a little compressed.

Thanks
JR

Try setting an SFS size that allows you to use 'Straight Contiguous'.... you may end up with a size that's much lower than you are currently showing in your signature.  I find that using the Mixed modes muddies things "significantly".

Have you've noticed a difference between 44.1k- and 48k-based playback?

Chris

Young-related settings should be the Octo (8x) Arc Prediction Filtering indeed, but also the choice between "DAC Needs" 24 bits and 32 bits. 24 may sound better. Try this carefully though, because I relate this to the HiFace where this is possible. The Young should be the same, but might not.

Further there are so many other settings and combinations of them. It may take you a few days to get hold of them all (and their merits). A first next thing might be the Clock Resolution. And KS Special Mode with a really low Q1.
And lastly but surely the Minimize OS (and Unattended Playback of course (no UI)).

Hope this gets you going a little ...
Peter (sending welcome greetings just the same)

I was using HiFace original then HiFace MK2, now JKDAC32 which contains HiFace inside. With the latter I switched to Young's drivers as in several forums people have confirmed this way sounds better. I suspect if Young's drivers fit HiFace, HW is "the same". Just renewed my signature, so check please settings of XX there.

I've upgraded to Young driver and it definitely is an improvement over standard drivers for Hiface.

Stick with that but you need to work slowly through XXhighend settings. It takes time and listening to sort.

Try one setting at a time and give yourself a week unless it is very obvious. I've been running engine 3 for 3 months and only just changed to engine 4.

Bearing in mind that XXhighend can deliver a sound that requires speakers to be repositioned, subs to be recalibrated or equipment short comings!!! etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'd start with upsampling to 192 kHz and antimage ON
SFS straight continuous at 10.
engine #4 and KS adaptive mode 4096 buffersize
I like the SQ now, i will follow the suggestions and make the adjustments one at the time and wait to settle down the effect.

This (Anti Image) should give you the worst SQ of everything ...
