Title: Device Allocated But Cannot Play
Post by: GerardA on July 06, 2012, 11:06:50 pm
Today I decided to tackle XXHE to get it to play again.
For some reason I did not use it much and was still using z6.
This gave me the device not allocated error.
Luckily I found this this thread (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2013.msg20789#msg20789) and installed z6-1c and played around.
After going back from engine 4 to 3 I got music again.
I wonder if it is the HiFace-drivers or XXHE is making problems?

On the other hand it sounds very good now even with simple settings, attended, services on,
that I wonder if engine 3 is still inferior to 4?
And if so in what way?
Because a lot has happened and I think Kernel Streaming is Passé for MS...

What can I try to get engine 4 working again?

Hi Gerard,

Obviously your post will relate to further posts in that topic, but I can't make up from your post what your problem is (merely : what happens). So maybe briefly "repeat" what happens at your place ?

Thanks,
Peter

Well, I get the 'Device Allocated but cannot play, check your dac settings, sample rate etc' error.
I checked and changed a lot of settings, but only going from engine 4 to engine 3 solved the problem.

I would like to get engine 4 working again.

But while using engine 3 I was wondering if this engine is really (still) worse than engine 4. As it is now I can not A-B between them. :(

Gerard, can you post your X3PB log file from such a situation ?

Gerard I'm running the Young Hi-face driver now in Kernel Streaming with Hi-face M2tech with Engine 4. I had no problems with standard Hi-face drivers. Check my settings although I'm currently trying new settings as Peter suggested which I have updated on my postings.

Make sure you have the Hi-face KS driver/player highlighted in Device output of XXhighend when using engine 4. I find I have to reboot computer after changing major settings in XXhighend as well.

Perhaps go back to Hi-face manual its got all the relevant instructions for setting up for Kernel Streaming.

Thanks Peter and Robocop,

I'll hope to come back on this tomorrow, but not sure yet.
Almost holiday, a lot to do!

Peter,
The X3PB-logfile is empty.
This one not but is it helpfull?

Problem still exists on z7, engine3 plays, engine4 does not.

Just found this one:

Hi Gerard,

I don't know. Maybe it works if you set your "DAC Needs" at 24 ? The HiFace driver I have (early version like my HiFace is an earlier version) at least can do that. I suppose the more current device + driver too. Maybe it helps.

But whether it does ot not, something seems to be wrong with the driver you use. Can't you try an older one ?
And what about Robocop's suggestion ?

Regards,
Peter

Finally got it to work in KS.
Control panel-> Sound->Play->Hiface->Properties
There was a fourth tab where it said 44kHz maximum, after changing this to 192kHz 32 bit it worked.
But now the tab has disappeared..... :scratching:
Who changed that setting? Not me!

Sounds like fun Gerard.
But you should tell this to the manufacturer I think. I know they are working on things ...
