Title: BlueTooth Range Much Better
Post by: Scroobius on August 24, 2012, 09:52:47 am
When I first got RDC working it was with the BT dongle at the music PC plugged directly into the USB socket on the back panel of my PC. And that has to be a very bad place for a radio transceiver - right next to all that metal at the back of the PC. The result poor range. So then I found a short USB extender cable and plugged it into the USB on the PC and then plugged the BT dongle into the other end of the extender cable. Now the dongle is placed just a couple of feet away from the PC case. The result is that I get decent coverage - everywhere in the room where I want to use and even in the garden (OK it is a bit slow there but open a window and no problem. So now the BT coverage is reasonable - it is not quiet as good as wi-fi but it is certainly good enough now for my needs.

Hi Paul, yeah I'm using short USB extenders on both PCs, with the USB dongles stuck to the top of the PCs with 'blu-tack'. This just allows you to get a more direct connection easily.

But I'd love to be able to increase their speed. The response on the connecting PC isn't quite as good as I'm used to - just a slight delay in response which makes double-clicking a problem for me.

Any ideas anyone?

Mani.

Double clicking is no problem whatsoever. But notice that not all on the iPad allows double clicking (Safari IIRC).

If you can't double click e.g. the Library Items in XXHighEnd, something must be wrong. Not that I can imagine what, but still. Maybe too slow after all ? But sure not here … Or maybe the RDC client you use ?
And do you ever talk about the iPad, or do you talk about the intermediate PC ?

Regards,
Peter

Today I´m going to try the BT dongles in a 10.1" laptop, a HP Mini, that I´m going to use as remote, maybe later if that´s not comfortable enough I´ll get a tablet, still I don´t know which one  :(. You are the first ones I know that are working so far with RDC, besides Peter of course, would you give me a tip or some recommendation before I start with the installation to save me some problems?. With a laptop as remote I don´t need the intermediate pc, right?.

Would you please update your signatures with the complete data?. I´m following you both to know what you are doing with 09z-07  8):

Mani, what is you IPhase setting, is it active? and (+/-)?, if nothing, sorry you are right, and your USB Buffer Size in the Phasure Control Panel, is it 4ms or 8ms?

Paul, you have still the old settings, maybe you are waiting to get the definitive ones...

Best regards,
Juan

Thanks Peter,
I´m going to continue the work with my cracks and ticks. Yesterday night I installed a program called Driver Max to update the drivers, I updated 18 of them, I did it in my working Pc and now I noticed an improvement, it works now faster and smoother. I don´t think that it updated the mb drivers but I´m not sure, I only got one problem with one of the drivers but the Driver Max can reverse it to the previous driver very easily. I´ll try it in the Music Pc before I install the BT dongles, maybe I fix something about my cracks.

Best regards, Juan

Juan - I have not been using PA as I have been waiting to install dc blocking capacitors. They arrived yesterday and installed last night so watch this space I will soon be activating PA and when I do I will update my signature.

Peter, this is with the intermediate PC, not the iPad. I'm talking about my office system (still haven't try remote connection on Le Monster) where the intermediate PC is my work PC - a fairly fast machine (the one I'm typing on right now).

As to be expected, everything is a little bit slower than when I have a keyboard/monitor connected directly to the Audio-PC, but nothing too drastic. It's only double-clicking in the Playlist Area that I'm having trouble with. At the moment I'm having to drag albums across from the Library Area to the Playlist Area because right now double-clicking is working just like single-clicking. I've tried double-clicking quickly and slowly to no avail. Of course, if I connect the keyboard/monitor directly, everything works OK.

Mani.

Mani, that is nothing I recognise. Strange.
I also don't know about an RDC setting for this. But maybe it is ?
