Enh - he's way too fond of calling good perfect, as in "A CD player has no measurable jitter."  Would be news to many folks, I'm sure.  And there's the same old same old about how 16 bits and 44.1kHz is enough.

The explanation re 44.1kHz is wonderful, as in something to wonder at: We don't need higher than 44.1 because there's 8x sample rate conversion in the DAC.  Gosh, it must be far better to use a low sample rate at ADC then convert it to an 8x higher rate, than to use a higher sample rate and convert it at a lower multiple or not at all.

Thanks for the link.

Very readable as allways. His camera and lens reviews are in the same no-nonsense tone, highly recommendable.

Having it read, i feel our experience with well set up xx music servers fundamentaly agrees on the quality that 44.1/16 material is able to offer.
Perfect rips for ever!!

Regards, Coen

Thanks for the link, however .....

It's hard to take a supposedly "hi-fi" article seriously when it references an iPod five times during the read ... haha

Still, I do agree that the vast majority of current day engineers, by and large, curtail to the producers demands to stay in the "compression wars".

Perhaps he is better suited to photographic articles ;)

Cheers,

Russ

Found some time to read the article ...

I probably will be offending a few people, but ...

The biggest baloney I've ever read. Ok, top 10 at least.

And for those who don't know : I am 100% pro the Redbook CD format (opposed to "Hires"). But I sure hope that I never ever exhibit the total BS I just read ...
