Title: Windows 8 installation/play issue
Post by: benananda on November 11, 2012, 03:16:09 am
Turned off UAC through registry hack, and had no problems that I can tell until I tried to play when I got this message.

"Necessary Privileges have been set. Reboot to make the effective ! (playback will not start now)"

Of course this is standard, but when I reboot and try to play the message comes up again!!  No matter how many times I try it gives me that message.  Reinstallation did nothing.  Am I missing some step here?

The least what you miss is the formal support for Windows 8. IOW, I just didn't look at it yet. So, as it seems, it needs some more right now. Look here, which I think should get you going : Re: Windows 8 playback works! (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1992.msg20671#msg20671).

What's to be taken from this is that you need the "amin" (or "administrator" ?) user-id itself to do it.

In any event, take care that you use your Userid including Password (this gives more rights). But also notice that when you didn't apply that yet and actually don't like that, once there you can't remove it.

Peter,

The link to the working Windows 8 has of great help.  Administer rights through new user, UAC off, without checking administer for program.  It works!  Not only that, but Windows 8 solves some long standing problems.  Now my ClockRES can go past 1ms, to a full 15ms! I can hear the relaxed difference in sound. Also unattended mode helps a little, but is not so crucial as before; Windows 8 has much better resource management and audio without LAN interference.  My setup is a little different, so can't make proper comparison, but overall I hear a more relaxed sound.  with proper tweaking I think I can get the detail back.  Will be updating over the holidays. :)

Ok !
Do you mean Christmas Holidays ? ah, then you are going to listen to Christmas music. :)

Btw, be careful not to compare apples with oranges, because normally Windows 7 allows for a Clock resolution of 15 just the same ...
(why not in your former case I don't know)

Regards,
Peter
