Title: 09-z8a activation
Post by: CoenP on December 25, 2012, 10:33:25 pm
Hi Peter,

I was tricked into thinking that I had an activated version but could not return to minimised mode from 'normal' mode.

I digged up some old threads and triplechecked my activation procedure that worked fine for all the 07 versions I have installed (all of them). That was strickly according to the letter of the instuctions for one thing: I copied the activation code from a win7 note (the yellow post-it style ones) that is allways on my desktop.

Now I could change the processorcore schemes, but the coverartborder remained yellow. Not the colour I would expect (=red).

Then I got a hunch to look up the activation code on an older install and copy that into the activationcode field. Did that and voilį: XX was activated!

Rather strange since the code is identical to the one on the note. Probably in this version activation is font sensitive?

It would have been also less confusing if the processorscheme remained locked whilst being not (fullly?) activated. Is this hard to fix for a future release?

Next to that I find the activation alone to make a vast improvement in SQ, even on 'normal' mode!

regards, Coen

Sorry if this has been answered already...

What's a sure fire way of knowing that XX activation has been successful in W8? Red-bordered wallpaper isn't possible, right? Is a red 'Minimize OS' button enough? I recall that the ability to appoint cores was not enough to be totally sure.

Any thoughts?

Mani.

Hi Mani,

on my W8 registered XXH the coverart border changed from yellow to red.

Another hint that tells if XXHE is activated: the title "XXHighEnd " with its version (top left corner) will be displayed in blue if not activated and in red when correctly activated.

Hope this help :)

Thanks Alain. Most of the signs are indicating that I'm properly activated. The only thing that I didn't get was a red wallpaper boarder in Attended mode immediately after I'd activated (and played another track and then closed/opened XX). It was still yellow, hence my concern. But I really think I'm OK.

If the Wallpaper Coverart (only available in Attended for W8) shows yellow, then it doesn't seem good to me ...

It took a while to change from y to r. It was not immediatly.

I don't have any wallpaper in Attended any more. It worked before activating and once after activating (but was still yellow), but hasn't since then. The background just goes black and all the desktop icons disappear. XX remains and seems to work just fine.

Hence my earlier question as to whether there was another sure fire way of knowing that activation was OK. I've attached a few screen shots - are these enough to be sure?

Thanks Joachim. But I no longer get any wallpaper in Attended. Could you check to see if you're still getting one in Attended please?

Yes, still in Attended

Mani, yes that is enough. But not when you state that your Wallpaper is yellow. Then something looks fishy.

Btw, if now no Wallpaper appears anymore (in Attended) something is wrong. Look in your XX folder for (IIRC) .bmp files. You will see whether they are Wallpaper related (standard or from an album). Delete those.
It now may happen that even your normal Wallpaper doesn't show anymore after a playback (Attended) attempt. If that is the case, set it again (Personalization or something).
Does it now work again ?

I had to apply very trickery stuff to get the Wallpaper going in the first place and it may have failed.

If you can't get it going anymore and you want it back, I can dig up a Registry key to reset. So let me know.

I have exactly this same problem. Also the wallpaper that appears is not the one is being played but a previous one that is stocked in some place in the memory because must be probably the first one I played when I started XX, maybe even before the activation. It happens even after rebooting the system.

Btw, once this starts to fail (appearing) then you must be very careful not to look at an old Wallpaper. So, when you'd see yellow borders and don't understand, check whether it is actual.

Haha, Juan was just ahead of me with that.

Yes, but how can I do this when I get no (edit: album-related) wallpaper in Attended?

I checked the bmp files, and there was only one there which was Wallpaper.bmp - my Windows wallpaper. No album-related bmp files. So, when I go into Attended, I get my Windows wallpaper showing. Unfortunately, I always use a solid black colour for my wallpaper, which is where the confusion stemmed from I think. So Attended is showing Wallpaper.bmp for every album.

I think the yellow wallpaper I saw immediately after activation was indeed an old wallpaper.

Confusing...

Mani.

Same here, the only bmp file is the one called Wallpaper

OK, I'm activated.

I replaced the Wallpaper.bmp file in the XX Folder (my Windows wallpaper) with a bmp of the album is was playing. I played in Attended, and still exactly the same thing - no album wallpaper. I looked in the XX Folder, et voilą, here's what I got.

Thanks for all the help guys.

My own conclusion : Yes but not really because the Wallpaper Coverart does not show. Correct ?
