It seems like changing any setting or trying to change tracks causes the crash...

Hi there. Looks very odd to me. Can you please create a new folder and unzip the download in there and start all over ?
No idea whether that helps, but somewhere something strange must have happened; I don't recognize it at all !

Le me know the results ...
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Have done as requested, but the same problem i am afraid.

Plays the first track. If i try to seek within the track it does not like it, and the engine falls over and the same if i forward a track.

I will download a previous version in the morning and see if it happens then.

Happy New Year.

Mike

Mike,

Maybe you try too many things which are not allowed during playback and which are unprotected. For example, I don't think that moving the time cursor will work without pressing Pause or Stop first. Please regard this for everything for now.
Next should work though.

There's another thing;
During the first startup you may be asked to run some programs which pass by. Firstly you should run those and secondly you should denote "never ask for this again" (similar) for each of them. If you skipped this part or are not sure about it, you better install all in a new (!) folder again and then focus on this. Not doing this as should can at least create all sorts of anomalies because now under the hood programs can't run.

Otherwise still odd !
Regards and apologies for your troubles,
Peter

PS: In Settings you can switch on Logging (at the bottom). In the TemporaryData subfolder to your "XX" folder then log files emerge named XX, X3 and X3PB. If you like you can post a set of the newest after such a happening; maybe I can see something in there.

PPS: You should have 2GB of memory which is on the (very) low side anyway. Do you ?

Hi Peter,

In this case, it played the first track, but when i stopped the playback and selected the second track, the Engine stopped.

Thanks for your help so far!

I will redownload and try again the install files. I was careful to follow the instructions, but its possible i may have missed something.

Mike

I see totally nothing wrong Mike.

At reinstalling, can you also re-download the zip ? I'm looking at the error itself and Google tells me that it could be some sort of corruption.

Why do I see this similar error only from gamers ?

PS: You can just attach the log files lile I did it in your previous posts. See "Additional Options" under where you type the post.

I think you are playing with Engine#3 (WASAPI) and possibly it can't handle your other settings. Can you use Kernel Streaming (Engine#4) for the DAC you are using ? So don't change settings but rather choose KS.
(notice that when it crashes again this will still show Engine3.exe, so don't be confused about that).

Additionally, can you copy a part of your music files to a (same) structure elsewhere from \User\ ? (just make a folder yourself)

What OS are you using ? (this is lacking from the XX log file because you just switched on logging)

Hi Peter,

I am currently using the onboard sound from my gigiabyte motherboard.

This is a 24Bit 192KHz device, however, i will buy a decent soundcard shortly.

My current hardware only gives me the option to use engine number 3.

In J River i use ASIO4ALL, which i believe is a wrapper for kernel streaming. I can use WASAPI Event style in J River, but i cant select Native Kernel streaming.

It may well be a limit of my current hardware.

My OS is 64Bit Windows 7 ultimate.

I am a bit new to all of this so i apologise if my comments are a bit off track.

Oh and i will attach the log files in future - Sorry!

Thanks

Mike

Mike, stupid stuff.

I have the feeling (but please confirm) that you play with the GUI on-screen and that when the track finishes it won't play on. Correct ?
This is a known "phenomenon" and quite under control with Kernel Streaming. But maybe not with WASAPI and some settings combinations you applied (or which even are default).
Please notice nobody is using WASAPI these days and so not much (nothing actually) reporting about it is going on.

If I am correct at this, please try Unattended and then it should work. This is the button under Play. Don't be afraid the UI will disappear. It will. Comes back with Alt-x.

If this now works we can proceed from there.
Have your Q1 at 14 for now, the xQ1 at 1, SFS at 12 like you have it seems OK, but set that ("split File Size") to 60 for now.

Don't think too quickly it will be some hardware problem; I can't imagine that.
Did you tweak the OS to some extend ?

Peter
