Title: W8/SFS/Buffer Settings
Post by: boleary on January 30, 2013, 05:03:03 pm
Peter, when I try your W8 settings (SFS-430, Q1-30,xQ1-20) my test track (Adele -Someone Like You -from 21, good track for testing a too dynamic harshness) the song stops about half way through. If I lower the SFS to 410 and don't change Q1 and xQ1 all works well. Am wondering what is the best procedure to determine the appropriate settings for SFS, Q1 and xQ1? Should I necessarily lower Q1 and xQ1 as I lower SFS? Just wondering.

As for the sound? Very interesting. Gonna take a while to come to conclusions!

Brian,

The 430 is criticle anyway and its main relation is with the speed of the data provided. By now many more things are involved like processor speed etc.
I never noticed a thing wrong, but still after many albums it can go wrong (I just know).

Short answer : 430 is too high BUT in combination with the buffer setting(s). Not really too high, but not reliable.

HTH
Peter

PS: But take care that your disks don't fall asleep in the minute because your 430 + the 20 x 30 may incur for just that (and *then* all takes more than the allowed time for it).

PPS: With Phase Alignment Off all will keep on running, but with silences where it otherwise will all stop. Not that I encourage you to try with PA Off, but maybe you should with W8 ...
