Title: Underclock "XXHighEnd PC"
Post by: Gerard on March 16, 2013, 09:16:34 am
Peter,

Do you have any idear how low i should set it?

I now have set it from 3.8 to 2.2 GHZ (set in the bios because that real time program did not work wel here)

That works very much ok btw.

 :)

Hi Gerard,

I did not try it myself, but theoretically to 58% of what it was (3.8GHz). But just watch the CPU temperature and when you can rev up the CPU fan without disturbing noise, you can go higher. In the end it will be able to do 100% but the fans will blast. Do notice that it is you who has to rev up the fans for their general level.

But why does the real time facility not work ?

Peter

Ok thanx,

The realtime somehow did not work wel with the processor setting. Meaning checking it in system the speed there did not match the real time setting. Bios does btw.

2.2 is a bit to low i think.. PC suddenly freezes.  :)

Will move it a bit higher.

Are you trying to get it as low as possible ? I would make it as high as possibe ! (while heat remains OK)

I recall that you must swap tabs (screens) to refresh the reported frequency. And otherwise versions matter (don't ask me what I use here).

Hello Peter,
In my case I do the undercloking downloading the FSB and in that way I go from 2.5 to 2. But in any case, with the Ultimate tweaks, the resources monitor shows consistently that I am using the 97% of the total frequency. BTW downloading the FSB always give me better sound. The only thing that is clear is that every PC is a world itself.

I forgot to mention that the temperatures are lower than ever. :dntknw:

Hey Peter,

No no not as low as possible. I am raising it at the moment. Temps stay very low. around 35 40 at 3.00 GHZ.

Are you sure about what you said in the release note's?

Important notice to users of the "XXHighEnd PC" : they 100% for sure will need to do that OR rev up the fans in there.
Otherwise any PC will be able to cope with the Ultimate setting, BUT, the fans will rev up to intolerable noise.

If you mean that I implied that the fans will automatically rev up to intolerable noise ... no (you would do that yourself to keep temperatures down).

But maybe you see the kind of same as I do with my normal Audio PC and that there's no problem whatsoever, not even at 3.8GHz ?
I never tried, but relate it to the normal XTweaks settings (and have the Balanced Load set high) and in *that* situation temp will be 60C right away ... (while I set the limit to 62C).

?

Is it better to overclock, underclock or leave the CPU with it's nominal frequency ? I know it should be a matter of taste, since for people who can hear differences (I can't), but...

I use RealTemp to monitor the results of my adjustments with Xtweaks. It helped me to better understand what was going "under the hood" for the frequency, the load and of course the temperature.

As I understand it, if I see the temperature raising and it looks too high, I should adjust by revving the fan up or down, the CPU frequency, or a mix of these two. As for the load, I understand that it is better to leave it at 100%, preventing some potential variations in SQ right ?

Alain,

With the XTweaks Ultimate setting, you'd have one combined objective only :

- Don't let rise the temperature too much;
- Have all as fast as can be (mainly for loading tracks, but also to prevent fameous Stops).

So :

No, not right. With XTweaks-Ultimate there will be no variations anyway. Maybe by thermal protection (of the CPU) but not by the OS.
