Title: Version 9s-0 impression
Post by: JohanZ on November 18, 2007, 08:28:31 pm
Hi Peter,

Indeed the end of XXHighEnd?   :grazy:

Afther installing the new version I have got a lot of cracks in the sound. Changing Q1 has no more any affect on the cracks. Indeed the limit for mine DDDAC1543 is Q1=22 in the versions before. Changing the PCAS from Scheme-1 to -3 does not have a affect on the cracks.

Changing settings during playback stops the player and the only way to restart the music is via a restart of XXHighEnd!

Johan

Hi Peter,

A first wow the the sound i am hearing.... But a little too soon to react on that. But every time i load a new cd or a next track will result in a close down. I thought when reading your explaining that it would only happen once?

Or am i wrong....

 :good: :good: :good:

Hi Peter

Fantastic sound so far, better than before, for sure. I'm using the default settings.
I had some problems with little cracks-pops, but i' ve changed the process affinity manually and they disappear.

I think this release is a huge step ahead.

Hahahaha, this is probably about the "combinations" I mentioned in the Releasenotes. Not sure though ...

When you want to change something like Invert or Q1 settings, click Stop, change the settings (load your tracks), and click Play.

In upcoming 0.9s versions those things will be possible ...

Edit : Sorry, I was responding to

Hi,

What do you mean, "manually" ? (this is kind of important I think)
And how did you set it in XX ?

When I play "Unattended" all the cracks in the sound are gone! In "Unattended" the changing of Q1 is working.  Without Unattended I have'nt found a solution for the cracks. As I sayed before Q1, invert, priority, scheme, ....has no affect on the cracks!

from the task manager. I change the affinity of the process from there, to use only cpu 1 and not cpu 0 (dual core system)
after further listening i like the sound very much. I'm trying to set Q1 slider to a position that make highs a little softer, because imo after some time they become some kind of fuzzy (something like jitter effect).

I love the speed and the micro details...

Greetings

Hi Peter

Notes on sound quality to follow :)

At present I seem to only be able to play just one track of a playlist.  At the end of a track the player just stops and will not respond to pushing any buttons. After about a minute I get the message "engine 3 did not start within the expected time."

To play each next track I have to turn off XXHighend and reload it.  :dntknw:

Cheers Chris

Despite the bugs, this is the best version of XXhighend by far.

In my opinion all the incremental changes since its inception do not add up to the one single improvement made by 9s-0. Dynamic and revealing of small detail, yet without a hint of harshness. It gets my vote :drinks: :drinks: :drinks:

Wow ...

And Chris, with "stop after one track" you mean at unattended playback, right ?

Or ?

Chris ... no ... this must have been Attended Playback.
Solved per 0.9s-1 (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=275.0).

But ... still the SQ improved so much ?
Now what ... if so, *that* was unintentional ...

Now I think of it ... don't underestimate the new priority scheme ...

Glad you've fixed the problem  :veryhappy:

I cant grasp the concept of unattended operation, how does it differ from just loading lots of tracks and going away? I must be missing something

Yes, I did note the new schemes and how they might help with glitches. Till now I have just run on SQ 14 with nothing else checked - so lots of experimenting to do

Let's say it is a technical description of something really happening : the sound engine (#3) is like a running train, without the control of XXHighEnd. But with auto pilot it should do okay.

Also, and that is what it is all about, it eliminates the influence from the controlling section "XXHighEnd". That is, since we learned that it just influences, I wanted to get rid of it (the influence out of my control).
You could say that for the first time we are listening to the raw engine, and it expresses everything I layed in there to make it sound good. But mind you, I could never have heard it myself, so whatever it sounds like, so far this is kind of unintentional (intentional was : listening through the influence of XXHighEnd, although I did not know that at the time).

Good description and I seriously thought it meant leaving the room while the Hi-Fi was playing :) :)

I haven't tried unattended yet - perhaps more delights are in store :clapping:

Hello Peter,

First i like too say that it is so funny that right now whe are hearing things that were not there before. Altough we could not hear them...

When i load a new cd you were talking about a error... I see two errors.(not alway's).. See pic's.. First the above apears and then the second. ( Just to let you know)

EDIT: Many time's XX has to be ended with the Taskmanager....

Hey Gerard,

Do you use latest version (being 0.9s-1) ?

Then, if you have to quit XXEngine3 by Taskmanager, this is just "caused" by you not using Stop from within the player.
I know, it's almost too simple to explain, but the illogic might arise from the need to start XXHighEnd in order to do so (press Stop in there).
Or otherwise I don't know what you mean ...

And Gerard, was this indeed draaging files from Explorer, or the Library button ?
And was something already in the Playlist Area, or was it empty ?

Lastly :

Actually I don't understand what you say here !  :)

I have the same bug. But restarting keeps the playlist.
Nevermind i see version s-1 that fixed this :)

During playback (version XX 0.9s-1) I sometimes get the following dot NET error.

Today I start listening where I was last night stopped. The tracklist was still there. Playing XX 09s-1 Unattended. After a few seconds I've got the following error message:

You are just ahead of me. Wanted to post about this last night, but got busy with other things.
I'll retry tonight.

(it's not problem anyway).
