Title: Losing Windows Activation
Post by: acg on November 06, 2013, 11:23:14 pm
Hi all,

I am having a recurring issue whereby my windows 8 installation is _losing_ its activation.  What I mean by this is that for the last week or so, whenever I turn on the XXHE PC in the morning and play music eventually there is a little problem that causes me to de-minimise the o/s and re-minimise it.  After the first couple of days of doing this I noticed a message on my desktop saying "Windows is not activated" so I went into Control Panel to verify this message, and what do you know...it was saying that window 8 was no longer activated.  I pressed the "Activate Now" button and it activated successfully even without an internet connection. mmmm.  Strange.  So this has been my routine for the past few days...turn on the XXHE PC in the morning....play some music...have a little problem (such as the uninitiated pause issue reported in another thread here or XXHE just stopping for no reason or windows automatically logging me out of my user account and waiting for me to log in again - but usually the pause issue)...check Control Panel to verify that w8 has de-activated itself...de-minimising the o/s...re-activating w8...re-minimising the os...playing music flawlessly for the rest of the day...shutting down the XXHE PC at night.  Repeat the next day.

My XXHE PC is not connected to any network or internet, is set not to receive windows updates, has firewall and defender disabled.  When re-activating w8 each morning it makes no difference for the next day whether I activate when connected to a network with an available internet connection or whether I don't plug in the network cable.

Any ideas?  I had meant to check whether w8 was still activated when I turned on the XXHE PC this morning but completely forgot...that's a job for tomorrow.

Anthony

Hey Anthony,

That message can be regarded fake.

It is fake because of the services concerned not running under MinOS. So, it can't be determined whether Windows is activated and next registers that or something. But, there is no need to activate at all. All will work just the same.
Oh, I think that message only pops up after a cold boot.

So, just leave it as it is - no worries.

Btw, if you're really annoyed for your own reasons, I think I can dig up a means to avoid the message. But maybe not for the better because then you won't know yourself, and don't ask me what happens when you connect to the Internet where it wants to register your (not-) activation (while you actually blocked something which could be more than the message alone).

Regards,
Peter

Something else is that I think you can't even really activate without Internet connection. For this I can refer to one of the early questions at setting up the OS which goes something like "do you want to automatically activate at your first internet connection ?".

Hi Peter,

The windows de-activating itself is happening more frequently now...three times today.  The first time this morning it just went into its automatic pausing ritual and then twice today windows logged me off while playing music creating a thump and scaring the pants off me.  I was left there with the windows login screen and nothing to do but restart the computer because I could not login.    What I have here at the moment is a problem that is sooner or later may cause damage to the equipment.

I will research more about windows activation.  I am not game to play music right now for fear of being logged off without notice and causing a thump.  I am convinced that the automatic logout behaviour is windows software protection related and I need to find a way around it.

Regards,

Anthony

Hmm ... This now looks like quite something else ...
Actually it looks like a Preview Version which expired. Otherwise I have never seen such a thing and never heard of it either.

So ... now I don't know what you are talking about. Not anymore ...  ;)

There was another thread going where the music would pause automatically and start again when you moved the mouse.  If I remember correctly Peter your suggestion was to turn the volume up one position and that stopped the pause from recurring...or something like that.

I have decided to leave the XXHE PC running in un-minimised mode for a while and see if windows loses it activation.

Hi All
I got exactly the same problem. After playing an album in unanttend mode  windows 8.1 ask foractivation. Of course windos is activated and legal. I have to say there is no internet connected and everything works in minimal operation system.
With w7 I had no problems here. Is this something that I (we) have to learn to live with it or am I doing something wrong?
Also, I am aware that such service be switched-dependent activation out.
I also believe that every time there is an activation is requested that does something with the SQ in the negative sense.

Sorry for the bad english, but fortunately there is google translate .. 8)

Kind Regards,
Michel

Hi Michel,

There is no such thing as Windows de-activation.
Also (looking back in this topic) this is not related to any Windows 8 anomaly of pausing playback (as Anthony implied).

The only thing what happens is that after a reboot into Minimized OS, Windows will tell you that your PC requires activation. This is false, because all what happens is that the Service sorting out whether the PC is activated or not is not running.
This is really all that I know of, and no ghosts should be hunted for. However :

You won't be making this up. So if this happens again, can you make a screen shot of this (can be a (sharp) photo) and attach it here ?

If I today read back in this topic, all I can see for Anthony is that this is (or can be) Windows Defender related. For you :

It almost 100% will because Windows Defender is not automatically shut down by XXHighEnd for Windows 8.1. For that, apply this :

Go to Start - Run - type gpedit.msc

Expand Administrative Templates (under Computer Configuration) and expand Windows Components.

Click Windows Defender and on the right hand side double click Turn off Windows Defender;
In there activate the "Enabled" radio button and click Apply.

Reboot is not necessary.

If after this you still have problems, please call again. OK ?
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the tip windows defender. For me it was "not configured so." I will let the player play for a couple of hours, and if there is an activation is requested again, I'll post a picture.

Sorry for posting in the wrong post.

Kind Regards,
Michel

Hi Peter

So yesterday played an album in unattended mode and was not asked for activation. ( vivaldi by Rachel Podger)  8)
I thought it was great and got the player a four play (not in unattend mode). Numerous hours And sadly asked windows to enter the case. (The player does play continue). This blue screen I do not getting away, and must press the activate button. After that I could be the "PC Settings" screen removal through to open Task Manager and stop the import process.

Is there anything I can do, against this?

Kind Regard,
Michel

Maybe it is about this. So did you actually ever go on-line with this PC ? If not, it is NOT activated.
So did you ?

But I seriously doubt whether it will help ...

Peter

PS: I resized your 2x3m picture somewhat. :)

Are you saying that after 4 hours that screen popped up after all ? Or did this happen when you started to use Unattended ?

The time I have not kept. I put on some music for about 4A6 hours. And the blue screen appears .. sometimes after 1 hour it will appears after all.
This happens in both attend and unattend mode.
I will put internet back on en see wat will happend.

Kind regards,
Michel

If you already did that, then it won't help for sure.

OK, so this must be a Windows 8.1 "feature". Maybe this solves it for you :

Windows 8.1 sounds super poor and you shouldn't be using it for music.

Does that help ?
haha
But I am serious ...

Wait a minute ... I suddenly recall something ...

Yes, such a window, or maybe a smaller one preceeding the one you posted ? - can appear at irregular intervals. But all you need to do is press one little "back" button or whatever it exactly is and which I forgot. So, looks "dangerous" but is not at all.

Possibly I just applied alt-tab (switch to other task) or something like that.

Can't you find something which looks like what I am talking about ?

Peter

For w7 i never had any of dis problems..

Peter,

I have not had windows 8. I immediately switched from w7 to w8.1.
But I'm starting to believe that w8.1 so was not a best choice ..
Therefore, I will install w8 (there will probably be one on Spotnet). And go looking for an activation code.

You can expect an email from me for a XXHighend code request soon ..

Michel
