Title: Want a good laugh ?
Post by: PeterSt on November 24, 2007, 12:04:38 am
This is what I had in mind for yesterday, but I did not get to it. Right now the fun is a bit over ...

What about your self-tuning Vista Audio System ?

After a few days of using 0.9s (which actually is a few days before you all received it) I got my first message about Vista shutting down the spooler service (this is for printing). So I thought, so what ...
Then a few days later the indexing service stopped working ... which is good because I already stopped it, but it came back after a reboot (a known Vista problem).
Then again a few days later a next service shut down, some svhost service dealing with the graphics on the screen (look below how "white" the taskbar became from it).

So ... as long as audio keeps on playing, this must be for the better. :innocent:

As said, yesterday I wanted to report about this (but did not).

Then, this morning the first report from someone of you came in, about that spooler service. And a second ...
And then someone mentioned about the indexing service ...

Well, did we create a self learning audio system, or what ?
uhhmm ...

I guess it is a matter of waiting until Vista shuts down herself. We can only hope for the audio keep on playing. Must be the best !

Ok, actually I don't know what's happening, but my first thought is that according to the priority settings and all, Vista decides that it isn't able to run services accordingly anyway, so she shuts them down automatically (I've seen "time out" reports in the Windows error log). From theory that is just good.
Of course you can wait for nothing running anymore, if this continues this way.

Yesterday I thought I was alone on this, but wanted to warn you anyway. But strangely enough today (and not last sunday/monday when 0.9s was uploaded)  people start to report similarly, and now I'm thinking whether it really can be so Vista "learns" from her environment.
Currently, my spooler service is already shut down right after a reboot. Well, again, good. But how on earth is this possible ? It took 4 or 5 days before a first occasion of this happened to me. Unless people did not report it, it took "your system" 4 or 5 days to come up with it.

Now what ?
:old:

Hi Peter,

It is almost as if Vista has a mind of its own....and apparently becoming depressed by all the people telling that Vista is lousy.

Now it seems that it is suicidal in a way shutting down one application after another?

Scary...let's hope that defence is not using Vista as OS as it will then turn into World War III

So maybe after all: Don't ask Bill Gates to shut up as he will have the last word in any case. That's seen before....

I didn't went into any discussion with his OS system on my PC and neither I got any penalty from him on my XX, which he in my case alowes to excist in his world.
I have not seen anomalities for a very long time now.

anywayz, dedicated transport here, so if it shuts everything down but the essentials to run XXHE we're in business.

Had exactly the same late last night. I was playing with a few of the buttons on XX to change settings and the computer rebooted.  :o

Although I never tried to change anything (want to see where a good laugh ends in misery :)) all should be incurred by the Low Thread Priority (or is it Player Priority ?, I forgot ... EDIT : Yes, it is the PlayerPrio to change from Low to one step higher). If you start to have real problems, go from Low to one step higher and see whether that helps.

Of course it could have been just something else.

Hmm ... I don't see anything exciting from this report, except maybe the report shows errors for tomorrow already (27-11-2007). :1eye:

What about your EMU ?

Also, did yout set the priority somewhat higher ?

I recognize this. Dunno at this moment. But the "1 minute" can be prevented.

Too late ?? :)

Peter,

For now everything works again!!!  :)

I recall ... Sasser Worm.

The "1 minute" thing is an official Windows feature, of which I am sure I have seen that it can be shut off (to cover for problems). Please Google yourself for it (searching for the Sasser Worm should let you bump into it somewhere).

And scan your system ...
I'm sory in advance if I'm not right on this. But then you'll be glad anyway. :)

Thanx

Also for the double click!!  :)

I recall now ...
There's a process lsass.exe; when you delete that, you'll get the "1 minute" thing. Now, it's my guess that this process might not get enough cpu cycles to let know it is running (when the OS asks for it, or whatever), and then it would be the same as killing it (and get the 1 minute message). Or ... or it just terminated itself like the other processes (the spooler service being the first).

So if it is not the sasser worm, then it might just be the same as the stuff this topic (thread) is about. Actually I'd put my chances on that.

Now, careful with those priorities guys, maybe I don't want to be responsible for your crashing systems ... :rules:

Peter,

I can't find any Sasser worm..... I am sorry for my bad English but are you actually saying that i can try to delete Isass.exe?

Ofcourse your not resposible.....  :smirk:

No, I am noty saying that, although you can try it for fun (it can't harm and your PC will reboot).
Btw, it is Lsass, not Isass.

And in my last post I implied that you - most probably - just will NOT have this worm. Please read again ...  :)

Peter,

General good advice: install windows offline (network cable unplugged)
Then install a good antivirus (nod32 or kaspersky 7)
Then plug the cable and do all updates (antivirus first)

I have installed vista x32 and x64 on my computers several times and never had this spool error. I have had other errors and in general doing all windows updates and NOT installing cr*ppy codecs fix everything.

I can't imagine how that Spooler service can shut down several times. Maybe you talk about some other message as I think ? Or maybe it starts itself again ? (maybe it can, I don't know).

Also, did you try it with all priorities to normal ?

It was the spooler error for 4 time's in a row... But at this moment nothing yet..  :)

Set it to normal...
