Title: Alt-X issue in Unattended
Post by: boleary on March 21, 2014, 12:52:48 pm
Recently when I use Alt-X to bring up the GUI while a track is playing, I get the "XXHighend is already running" message instead of the GUI simply returning to the screen. If I then hit "cancell" and redo Alt-X the GUI returns, or I can just hit "Okay" to start a new instance of XXHighend and the GUI returns. No big deal but a bit annoying.

Hey Brian,

If you keep on doing this forever, hence always leave that other instance running (which you apparently do not see but IS there) this will keep on going to be like this. So I guess you need to answer "kill both" and then you are rid of it.
Notice that your "recently" kan only be from today (yesterday) unless you leave the PC always on.

In the end, what happens is that somehow one of the instances is hanging, which can happen occasionally (but is not really meant to be). You will be able to see it in TaskManager.

*If* it is so that now "recently" always some instance of XXHighEnd doesn't want to quit its tasks then something else is the matter (and I never heard of that so far).

Regards,
Peter

I think this is something new. It happens with a fresh boot, play a track, hit Alt-X and the "XX is already running message appears."

I have trouble getting Alt X to bring XXhighend back from unattended. I have to either wait till all the songs finish and then it naturally comes back or hit Alt - S which most of the time stops music playing, then Alt - x and brings it back to attended. Sometimes neither Alt x or alt s work, the computer restarts itself with errors. XXhighend says it can't support straight contiguous and reverts to mixed and xxhighend reverts to Win 32. Restarting computer fixes this and then resetting xxhighend. I havn't said anything because I believed what I run is way underpowered by all accounts now and probably the reason. This does seem to happen after a fresh boot. After 2 or 3 new different music tracks playing it does work, but only if music is stopped by alt s then alt x. This doesn't worry me too much as I have got around the issue but just in case it is a software error for your info Peter.

Robert, your situation seems to spring from using Q3,4,5 at 1,1,1 (and that is related to being underpowered indeed). But maybe we already talked this through, not sure though.
If you can survive this, just let it be, but anway you can test it with not setting those Q's to all 1's.

Partly it will be the same as Brian's issue I think (next post).

Peter

But new since when ? (1)

I have the feeling it could be related to some anti-virus thing. Is this Windows 8 or 7 ? (2)

So if you can repeat this easily after a reboot, switch on logging, apply that reboot, start playback and watch the time ... after more than one minute bring up XXHighEnd, apply "let run both" to the message coming up and grab the XX log file from the initial Playback attempt (so watch it's time). And post it.
Also answer the questions (1) and (2) please.

Regards,
Peter

It started happening about a week ago on W7. Though I haven't checked, I'm pretty sure there is no anti-virus running on the W7     partition. Am traveling right now so I'll post the log file next week. Thanks!
