Title: Removing the metal top of the NOS1 ?
Post by: AlainGr on July 30, 2014, 01:39:45 pm
Hi Peter,

I haven't tried this but I suppose that when you measure things, you need to do that with the NOS1 top open ?

Have you tried to compare the SQ resulting from a comparison between the NOS1 with the top removed and one that is not ?

I know this sounds weird. In fact I read a thread on CA this morning (about RFI isolation) and it reminded me of this little suggestion from someone a few years ago. At the time it did not seem valid for me, but maybe this morning, the rememberance of that suggestion jumped to my mind.

I guess that many factors will come to mind since RFI and EMI are important factors, but...

Thanks

Alain

Hey Alain,

Why "need to" ?
What we "need to" is measure both. So when a NOS1(a) is finished, we measure it without cover and after that with cover (all screws tight). This is because in theory it can make a difference, though not that I could ever see through measuring.

Isolating the vibration of the cover is something else and this is not much measurable unless perhaps the test signals are blasted through the room (but then still not). We don't do anything about that, but perhaps should have. If you go to a garage and ask for a piece of rubber strip (that where you have to peel off the paper so it will stick - that's nice stuff for this.

Regards,
Peter
