Title: 1.186-i jumps to next track or stops
Post by: BvdW on August 23, 2014, 05:09:47 pm
Hi, Peter,

After I installed the i-version of 1.186, at some tracks XX just jumps halfway the number to the next track without a pause in between (seemless switchover). At other points it just stops playing with the play button staying red. It does this consequent btw, at the same point of the same track. Other tracks of the same CD are played well.

I requested a new key, but that didn't help.

I had the same phenomena earlier at around march last year when installing a new version and submitted the problem to the forum. In the end I got a new key from you and the was the trick.

Do I need a special one again?

Nevertheless, when XX is playing it produces a great, great sound!

regards,

Bert

Hi there Bert,

A few questions :

1. Are you using the Custom Filter ? (I don't say you should)
2. Is this Attended or Unattended ? (Unattended is best)
3. Are you in Minimized OS Mode ? (MinOS is best)

When I know the answers to this I think I can give a useful response.

Best regards,
Peter

Hi, Peter,

1. No Custom filter
2. Unattended
3. Minimised OS

...and I will adapt my profile accordingly  :)

Bert

Bert,

Can you try all of these, best is all at the same time :

In Memory and Disk utiliztion there's an "Always clear cache". Activate that.
In there there's also an "Include Garbage Collect". Change the state of that (make Inactive when Active or the other way around).

In Processor settings there's a "Not switch during Playback". Activate that.

Change your Core Appointment Scheme; This is not in your Sig, so just change it to another setting.

When this helps we can always find out which of this really did the trick.

When this does not help, best would be to send me the album concerned by filemail.com.

Regards,
Peter

Hi, Peter,

Unfortunately, no changes when switching between the options you mentioned.

It was quite a challenge to test the options and combinations: set an option, press play, wait till all tracks where loaded then everytime wait for 7 1/2 minute for the effect to happen on the first track. Over and over again. I can almost spell out this first track!

During these tests it was rather consequent in skipping. I could always wait on the first track at a certain point around 7 1/2 minute where it skipped to the next track (apart from the other skip/stop points further on on the CD, but ofcourse there was no need to wait for these).
BTW, it is not only this particular CD. It does it with every CD, but at different points, so not every CD, first track, at 7 1/2 minute.

What next? Do you want me to send to CD to you?

regards,

Bert

But Bert, I aksed to to apply all at once. Not all subsequently ...

Yes, please do. and preferably the one which shows the culprit the fastest. Haha.
Use the exact same rip; so not a new one. Just zip the folder concerned and use filemail.com to send that zip to me.

Thanks ...
Peter

But Peter, I did  :)!

And when this didn't work I continued with switching the individual settings. (BTW, I guess you mean with "Always clear cache" --> "Always clear Proxy before Playback"?)

When playing with the switches you suggested I got the message:

"MemOrg Error02. If this persist, switch off Garbage collection".

After that, a second popup appeared:

"Category does not exist"

Well it did persist, so I switched it off, had to switch it off, to make it work again. What ever I tried after that, same result.

Then I started thinking (yes, I sometimes do :-). If these settings give the same result regardless of their current setting, then there must be an underlying mechanism producing this same effect. When I saw the tooltip of the core appointment I saw some lines about Hyperthreading. This could be that mechanism, I thought.

So, in the bios I disabled Hyperthreading and started this same CD and since I installed the i-version, for the first time this first track played well!

Found it!

I thought. Because now XX stopped at track number five. And did that for other CD's too. So nothing special with the CD's I play.

I tried the settings you mentioned again and started getting GDI errors on a black background (no CD cover anymore):

"Error setting the wall paper. A generic error occurred in GDI+".

Well, XX finally didn't want to play anymore because of these GDI errors.

In the end I switched off Minimize OS and Unattended and then XX played again. I didn't wait for five numbers anymore and switched on Unattended and there was this GDI error again (urghhh!!!!).

Unless you have a better idea I think best is to re-install XX, see if the a-version plays well and then re-install the i-files.

I could have done this before writing this reply ofcourse, but I first wanted your opinion on my findings.

Oh, and I adapted my profile to reflect my current XX-settings.

regards,

Bert

Bert,

Edit : First scroll down to the last post from me at this moment, with a "WTF" in the title ...

I now start to have the feeling this can be a USB3 issue. So try USB2, assumed you are using USB3.
Edit : ... Which you are not using at all as it seems (soundcard). No never mind in that case.

But especially with this issue, try another Core Scheme.

More in next post(s).

Title: Re: 1.186-i jumps to next track or stops - GDI+ error
Post by: PeterSt on August 27, 2014, 09:10:42 am
The GDI+ error comes from "something" which now prevents to create the Wallpaper. Sadly I forgot what's happening with this, but it is easy to solve once you know what to do. Haha. Oops.
But it will be related to "something" which accidentally happened during your trials and is further unrelated.

So, a bit stupid that I must guess now, but try to set your Wallpaper through Windows in normal fashion. Also, in your XX folder there will be a Wallpaper.bmp file (name can be somewhat different but if you let view the file you will see it). Delete that.

For now best would be to go to XXHE settings and  deactivate Show as Wallpaper (in Coverart section). Later we can solve that.

And oh, I just recalled ... delete the !CurrentlyPlaying.PLXX file in your XXData folder; I recall the culprit comes from there. Not sure though.

Now it is too vague for me what the initial setting was and when Off actually means On in your text. ;)

After you caused the GDI+ error not to happen any more, best would be to revert to previous settings. For that do this :

Go to XXHE Settings, Presets section. Next to the "Load Settings Preset" line there's a [...] button. Use that and you will see a list of PresetLoader files. Sort them so that the newest is on top. Now pick one from 3 or 4 days back - a date which you did not stop trying the things subject to this topic. Next press Load when back in XXHighEnd.
Quit and restart XXHighEnd.

Note : When you solved the GDI+ error from showing by means of deactivating the showing of the Wallpaper, now deactivate that again (you just loaded Settings from several days ago).

Title: Re: 1.186-i jumps to next track or stops - Revert to 1.186-a

Notice Bert : Maybe first look under "Having said this all" near the bottom of this post

I thought.

At least this shows that something *is* going on with the OS itself. Saldy, I would not know what I did to cause it, with the notice that 1.186-i does not contain any special changes in this realm. Watch out : compared to 1.186-a that is. Prior to that, yes. But assumed you were happily using 1.186-a ... :

I'm afraid you better revert to that.
(and notice that 1.186-i is not official)

I am also afraid that reverting to 1.186-a is not so easy, although you actually just learned how to do it for the major part :

1. Set back your old XXHighEnd.exe and XXEngine3.exe, assumed you saved those. The AutoHotkey file is less important and the XXOSK.exe even less (unless you use the On Screen Keyboard). But otherwise, those too.
Didn't save them ? then get those out of the original 1.186-a download (put in a temp folder and grab them from there).

2. Now find the just dealt with PresetLoader fille from a date prior to your 1.186-i (they are in your XXData Folder) before you ever start XXHighEnd 1.186-a.
Copy the one to your liking to your XXFolder, but with the name PresetLoader.XXSI (look in there first and see it sit there, so that one you are goinng to overwrite).

Having said this all :

Nice story and no lust to scratch it, but this can't work for you Bert. This is because under way you obtained a new Activation Code. Things will get inconsistent and it won't work.
So real solution : Re-install 1.186-a and obtain a new Code again.
As you can see ... I tried.

All 'n all the better idea would be to continue with 1.186-i and find the culprit. Haha. But notice it will merely be your wasted time if you don't succeed than mine (I never feel my time wasted for such things).

Best regards,
Peter

Title: Re: 1.186-i jumps to next track or stops - WTF
Post by: PeterSt on August 27, 2014, 09:37:57 am
Bert, :wtf: !!!

Why do I only NOW see in your sig that you use the AntiImage filter ?

Right from the start it ihas been logic to me that you are using that.

Try Arc Prediction. If that doesn't show the issue, then bad luck because AI is not only VERY unofficialy for 1.186-i but it is also bound to disappear at all.

Next, if AP helps, try the Custom Filter (176.4 version) and see whether that satisfies you over AI.

grrr

Hi, Peter,

I'm happy :), happy and happy.

XX is working again. I solved the GDI-problem first according to your suggestions and after that switched to Arc Prediction and that solved the skipping issue. So, everything is working again.

Another forum member, Johanz, mailed me and said he had the same skipping problem with AI and also solved it by switching it of, so this confirms for me it is all about AI.

Now, my question is how this AI-switch got set. I don't know. Really.
I always make screendumps of settings per XX-version and can't find back this setting. Its always arc prediction.
I think I'll take the easy way: just blame my wife  8).
No. Kidding. I don't know.

Anyway, I'm happy and got my confidence in XX back.

As a thank, if you are still interested, let me know, I'm happy to sent you this CD I used for testing (it is a really good jazz CD!).  Send the zipped version via filemail.com to Sales@phasure.com?

regards,

Bert

Hey hey hey, that seems not legal to me !
Why do you think I always created bugs eh ? To receive all those CD's for testing !

Bert, thank you, but really not needed. But feel free to share with Johan if only nobody reads this as an advice to steel.

Thank you for sharing Bert, and thank you for your help Johan.
Btw Bert, I got that AI from your sig. At least that must have gone quite deliberately. :) :)

Best regards,
Peter

Peter,

If my reading glasses are still good, JohanZ was asking "The Title Of That (good) CD"
Will you please let Bert reply on JohanZ's request. I'm interested too.
Bert, please share with us the name & artist of that good jazz CD.

:drinks:

Ahum,

We are Dutch here, and personally I don't see a single reason why that should be a "(good)" CD.

But of course, no reason not to share a title. :sorry: It could be a good one. Haha.

Hi, Peter, JohanZ, Nik.d, others,

It is The Guitar Album from Hein van de Geyn (yes, indeed we are going Dutch here, btw.)  :)

A really good CD. It was especially 'good' while it failed playing at the first track, ha, ha!
That is, with AI.
With other CD's I had to wait till track x to find it skipping there.
So, this CD saved me a lot of time when trying to find the cause of the problem!

Btw Bert, I got that AI from your sig. At least that must have gone quite deliberately. :) :)

Well, I never touch this AP setting, so it is not in my focus and therefore I didn't even notice it while putting it in my sig.

Regards,
Bert

But also good to know that I can use the first track of that for testing.
