Title: SQ Q
Post by: juanpmar on May 11, 2015, 06:38:01 pm
Hi Peter, after a quick first look at this new version I couldnīt see any reference about the sound quality. As I donīt use any remote, Iīd like to know if this new version has improved the sound quality compared to the 1.186-a version.

Kind regards,
Juan

Juan, close to the top (by now). But you must have missed the "all in its own Topic", right ?  :thankyou:

Peter

With a bit more time now ...

Yesterday I realized that I had actually taken out the text of the new Filters and only had a small link to it now. So SQ changes became completely overwhelmed by all the other text (far too much of it anyway). So seconds before your question about it, Juan, I added that one line of text close to the top. But it is still strange and out of balance.

Of course everybody has to listen for themselves but for me it has been a "change over change".
Most important I think is the fact that you can choose from 4 filters if you leave it at 705.6 output to your NOS1(a). More crucial can be that you can also output in 352.8 for which another 2 filters are available. These 6 new filters for me are already too much to explore. But you can bet that all sound different and maybe all sound better than the standard Arc Prediction (what is that ... "sound better" ?).

Regards,
Peter

Peter, the truth is that the short commentary about the SQ that appeared briefly surprised me because I had not seen it the first time. Anyway, you're right in saying that the SQ is something we'll have to see for our self. As I said, in my case, I have never been able to install successfully the remote control, so I wonder if the new version's main objective is the use of the remote control, galleries, etc leaving the SQ in a less prominent spot. This new version may not sound worse, Iīm sure it can even sound better, or maybe simply just different as you say, but it opens a world of almost infinite number of combinations handling 6 filters combined with all the other settings.

Let me ask a question just to think about it a bit. Arenīt we going down a path where test is the final goal instead to enjoy music? With so many alternatives and the increasingly complex software, we are not losing that final goal? I'm not against evolution that I consider necessary, but a software with so many combinations..., the truth is that it requires, again, a lot of effort and energy. Naturally there are always people willing. I can even be one of them at some future if I am able to see it less complicated and also leaves me time to enjoy music.

I say this with affection and as a constructive criticism.

Kind regards,
Juan

I will put the emphasis differently (actually as intended but how to see that) :

"But you can bet that all sound different and maybe all sound better than the standard Arc Prediction"

That is what I wanted to say.

Otherwise do please notice that I am not the kind of guy that tells you that all IS and DOES sound better etc. I have never done that and as long as I am the only one saying that, it can be my ears. OK ?

Best regards,
Peter

Hi all,

At least one sounds better. Using it now, really nice full and detailed sound. Also noticed by the more sceptical people in the house.....

Will off course explore all other filters as well!
