Gerard - And now you are going to tell me that you did not apply the "Not Signed Drivers" stuff as layed out in the 2.00 Release Notes. Right ?
So look for "signed" in there.

Or ?

You are right i did not do that. But after doing the same error came up.

Maybe first look for the drivers of the Asrock first. Tomorow  :)

Gerard, you could be the second person who did not do that *at first* and next is locked out or something.

Notice that in the end you don't really need the 1.04 Driver (when you use XXHighEnd). Renaming the Driver103.tss to Driver103.tst will do the job ...
(but reinstall the 1.03 Driver)

Maybe again you didn't set the "Signed" stuff ?

Hey, are you going to be the first with some sound (outside of me) or what ??

:)

No I did not forget the second time. That is why it is strange.

Playing now in Minimized. Unminimized played without any problems. Minimised i get some hickups. And everything reacts real slow. Meaning Starting XX needed 3 min to get everything ready (colors ed.)

I will try the other HHD later.

(I have the CPU at 32) For the moment

Most beautiful sound though....

Gerard, be careful that now you are not suffering from that Time Bar syndrom. So by all means : shut off the "As Time Bar" (Running Time OSD) in Settings.
That too I saw and that too I can not mimic anymore (plus I am using it all the time).

Ok and what if the Running Time OSD is Black not blue or red in Settings. Meaning cant change it. '

No I have dont do anything with coverart on. So thats not it.

Or it just is ?
Is it possible to make a screenshot of that whole (related) section ? Not that I don't trust you, but the combination as you explain it is not possible so now I need to see it with my own eyes.

A nice phone-photo is ok. But smile.

Thanks. But so much wasn't necessary ! (only the Coverart / OSD stuff - but I did not say that explicitly of course).

Anyway, you have not switched on the Coverart after all. Not for the Wallpaper. And my thing is : switch it on and switch off the Running Time or at least have this Time as Bar switched off.

I only now understand what you're saying here. 3 minutes ? nah ... but maybe. Anyway, is this each time so ? It sure can happen a first time or when some other message pops up during the process.
So if this is always 3 minutes, something is wrong.

Let me know ...
Peter

(PS : and wait until I split this topic because it is messy with the NOS1a driver title, now).

Grrr ... Forget about the time bar stuff. I now see that it is ONLY about slow building up (of the colours).  Is that correct ?

I know, it was my own false suggestion ...

Well forget it i would say....  :)

I have been busy with the other HDD now and everything works great.  :) :) :) :) :) :)

Also with your BIOS settings.

I will give the (false) HDD a new try. But not at the moment  ;)

Hi Peter,

I am confused about which driver to use. As you say if we rename the Driver103.tss is not necessary to install the 1.04. That's what I did and that's why I never installed the 1.04 driver.
Does that mean that the 1.03tss is the same as the 1.04?
I see that almost everyone installs the 1.04 with apparent improvements in SQ...

Regards,
Juan

Juan, emphasis is mine and - No. I see only one, unless I include myself which would be a very wild guess. But it could be.
My remark could be about symantics only.

And the "everybody" who installs the driver, is almost everybody without knowing why. Don't ask me the why. :)
Most part will be about confusement and how AT FIRST 1.04 was necessary for XXHighEnd 2.xx.
But with the Driver103.tst not any more.

But there sure can be a reason : using other players. Could be movie players (like I use MPC) or other audio players.

So XXHighEnd is self supporting and can do without the 1.04 Driver.

WATCH OUT :
When 1.04 is installed, the Driver103.tst MUST be renamed to Driver103.tss again, or otherwise larger ticks will be your share when the sampling rate changes.

I hope it is clear somewhat ... ;)

Thanks Peter, then, if I understand you well, with my system configuration (I donŽt use other player than XXHE), do not need to install the 1.04 driver even with regard to an improvement in SQ compared to 1.03 (103tst renamed). In other words, the only reason to change to the 1.04 driver would be in case of using other player and, talking about what matters to me personally, I understand you have tested 1.04 vs 1.03 (103tss renamed) using XXHighEnd as the only player and have not found differences in SQ. Is that correct?

(the 1.04 driver is a tweak to begin with)

:grazy:

A tweak is not necesserily something which leads to better sound. Using your wife's panties to repair the broken car engine fan (etc.) belt is also a tweak.
In this case it is to avoid the Driver Signing necessity which is a pain to setup, costs quite some $$ and ... I like tweaking.

Hi Juan,

No, that is not correct. I use 1.04 alright and used 1.03 prior to that, but I never watched for a possible change in SQ (which wasn't to be expected anyway). So I don't know.

Ok thanks Peter, then IŽll try to test both drivers to see if there are differences in SQ. From what I've read about the installation of the 1.04 driver I think these are the steps to follow, is there anything else to consider?

I also installed the 1.04 drivers yesterday.
For me there was a perceived change in SQ.

Namely:

- Deeper, lower bass
- more clarity, presence in upper/midtone

But I still have the open question which is:
Only XXHighEnd produces sound, any other software player is not working.

I'm running XX2.02 with the 1.03 driver (changed .tss to .tst) and everything works fine.

Are there anymore views as to whether 1.04 sounds better? (I don't want to hassle Peter unnecessarily for the 1.04 driver if there's really no need.)

Mani.

While I was going to, in the end I haven't  compared the two drivers, so I join the same question that Mani
