Title: W10074 XX2.02 error msg @ start of play
Post by: coliny on June 25, 2015, 12:53:23 pm
I get this message when I click play in minOS:- "the counter layout for category specified is invalid.............". I click away the message, press STOP then press play again & play starts ok. The issue occurs after every reboot. This may have started after I did a refresh of "time stability(W8)" which then asked for a reboot.

Hi Colin,

Odd ... Or maybe not because it's this W10 preview. But I have not seen this and tried both the "Not so stable" etc. settings. And neither showed this issue.

But are you OK with this ? I mean, "doable" ?

Peter

Colin,

By now I investigated this a bit further and I can see indeed that it must be about something in the OS which is "half cooked" so to speak.

I think you can avoid the error by means of deactivating the "Garbage Collect" button in Settings (under Memory Section). At this moment I don't know the literal name of the button, but set it so that Garbage Collection wil NOT be applied.

One other thing :
I strongly feel that this is related to that "happening" you had the other day and where you had to switch on winmgmt manually. So I now think that something else (slipstreamed) is involved here, but I can't tell what.

If you can revert to a Restore Point from before that winmgmt issue, chances are fair that the error will be out of the way. However, just guessing.

Thanks Peter,

I should have said the "garbage collect" message came up before the "the counter layout for category specified is invalid............." message. As you suggest with Garbage Collect turned of I don't get either message. Not keen on going back to a restore point at moment.

Time Stability however does not display a value, it never has since installing W10074. If I click REFRESH it shows "STABLE" but restart XXHE and it goes back to no value displayed, I'll make this another Subject if you like.

Colin,

Yes, why not (separate subject). But copy-paste a little and don't spend too much time on it for now. But, with the topic there I can look into something (maybe).

Regards and thanks,
Peter
