Title: Replacement for W10 build 10074?
Post by: Arjan on July 29, 2015, 09:31:34 am
Hi,
A friend of mine pointed me to this thread:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_devices/audio-issues-with-windows-10-please-read-this/18f62169-f660-4580-bd62-e7c029adada2?auth=1&Ocid=%23Outbound%20-%20Campaign_Social_TWITTER_windowsinsider_20150709_206177300&linkId=15426061

Which could mean that newer builds of W10 might be as good as 'our' 10074 build?

regards, Arjan

Hi Arjan,

Are you sure you posted the proper link ?
All I see in there is pretty standard text.

Notice that this focuses on audio problems which 95% of people have/had with the older builds, like 10074. But this is all about "no sound" usually from the MoBo audio hardware.

Btw, we can now have fun with people trying to get the RTM running. I did not see anyone yet (following this type of forums). But it could be soon now. Of course not for all those who found their update failed. OR/AND, those who already found their W7/W8 to be out of order, not being able to toll back to that.

STAY AWAY FROM THE RTM !
Or at least wait until all settled down and works (could be 2017 ;)).

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

The link is okay I think, and if it is standard text or not I do not know. (for me it is all new....)
What me made thinking was that the text is talking about build 130-162 having issues. And we are on 074 so before that! Maybe build 166 and on is as good as 074 again? Just hoping......

But for now I am happy with build 074 and will stay away from RTM for my audio pc it is.

regards, Arjan

HI,

W10 is running on my office PC without any problems. Will make some tests during the day with some audio programs. There is a possibility in W10 to postpone updates.

XXH is running with the W10 "on board" audio driver smoothly. No problems until now.

Hi Joachim,

Thanks for opening the way to many of us :) From what I read about Windows 10, there still seems to be obscure aspects where some questions are still present.

The fact that the Windows update was not in the plans for Win10 is concerning and the fact that the upgrade is free adds mystery (for me). For years now I do not have my audio PC connected on the internet and I believe that many of us have it the same way. I wonder though how Windows will react when updates cannot be done. There is supposed to be a program that can be downloaded to help regain some control on the updates, but the fact that they have removed this control initially is strange...

It seems to me that the more we advance in time, the less control we have over the OS. I am not sure if I am putting this with the right words...

Alain

Hi Alain,

we have to upgrade (with a hell of work) our W8.0 to 8.1 with ALL updates, and then a clean installation of W10 is an alternative. (keep or  not keep personal files) Via the German IT magazine (homepage) "CHIP" an ISO file of W10 to obtain is possible.
I believe, when we are disconnecting the internet connection after activating XXH W10 should run in the same routine as W8, but we have to see.

Joachim

P.S. What is going on with the upgrade from W7 to W10 I don't know,  but all updates have to be installed to.

Just thinking, when we have the ISO file CD we can test if the updates are mandatory.  The activation of W10 occurs automatically (in my case).

Office PC with W10 connected with NOS1. XXH 2.02 (in the test mode) is running without any "hickups". Sound is different, I have to listen more for an evaluation.

What I'm hearing sounds great. SQ is very balanced, nothing "springs" out. More details, good bass and nice highs. W10 seems to be a step in the right direction.

Thank you for keeping track on that, Joachim.

Too bad that the chance that people will have a working Windws 10 PC (build 10240 or higher) is close to zero (at least at this moment).

The actually only official MS forum about it :

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10?tab=Threads&auth=1
(where you won't get answers anyway, ever ;))
(btw doesn't work well on a somewhat older IE browser)

is totally swamped with, of course, all the very same errors and things which occurred the last two months (trust me - I have been following this).
It is totally ridiculous what Microsoft has been doing.
If you're on page 30 of this, it is still about new topics from one hour old and nobody receives any anwers. Not even views.

Everybody who is going to try this, is on his own AND will be completely stuck. Just read in there ...

Anyway, keep us informed about the SQ, Joachim !
Best regards,
Peter

Hi,

strange, on my office PC all programs (Office package, Audiogate, Kaspersky antivirus, Adobe Acrobat, Wimp etc.) are running quite well.
All programms have to be reinstalled, but this is nothing different to other Windows updates over the last years.

On the audio PC XXH and a RAM program shall be installed, nothing more, and I will test this on the laptop now. We will see.  :scratching::whistle:  :grazy:

W10 and XXH installed on the laptop and with some changes of the settings within the "unit manager" (Gerätemanager) XXH is running. Very different SQ to the PC (was wall of sound :).
Primo Ramdisk program is working.
When XXH is activated I'll go back to my old settings and hear .... .

Better not look for 10074 replacement, rather look how to keep it 'Going Strong'.

W10 & privacy? That word is not known to Cortana ...

   :P

back to W8.1 on the office PC within 10 minutes with all previous programs installed. (was a piece of cake!) W10 is not stable. (Peters note hit the ...... !)

Joachim

P.S. Will play music with the W10 laptop late today. There seems to be a problem with the activation, no red letters, but the "locked" settings can be changed/adjusted.
