Title: Win 10: How to get in Normal OS mode
Post by: JohanZ on October 02, 2015, 04:14:38 pm
Hi Peter,

System is in minimized OS mode and I want to get back in normal OS mode. After de-activating the button <Minimized OS> the system is trying for a reboot but after the monitor is shutting down nothings happens anymore. PC led active. System needs a hardware restart and XXHE indicates still in minimized os mode.

Any suggestions?

Best Regards,
Johan

Hi Johan,

I recall the situation myself, but I forgot what I did to get that right again. Actually I don't recall anything, except for switching off the PC and boot it again.

but

What I also recall is that it can take a VERY long time. Here too, I forgot the situation a bit. But this was about rebooting in general and at a 10th time or so it took 15 minutes of waiting. That can reset but I never found out how (it just happens, and then it starts all over -> reboot takes longer and longer).

What you can do - assumed it is the latter which bugs you - is move the mouse so the monitor gets on again, and then start something, like Explorer. This helps one time and a next time you must start something else (Notepad ?).

Quite vague eh ? sorry !
Peter

Johan,

I woke up this morning with the thought that there can be an error message about some memory position which can't be read (something like that), I think coming from Explorer.exe. If so, just click that away.
10074 can have this very rarely. The build(s) after that have it by standard (up to the one but last pre-RTM / 10240).

Or did you solve it by now ?

Regards,
Peter

The reason could be to install some driver.

Btw, I never went back to Normal OS since June. So possibly if I try by now, for me it doesn't work either ?
N.b.: Not easy to try for me because of the RAM version. So for your fun : if I would reboot into Normal OS, this setting is not saved (the Registry changes are not) and my system would happily boot into MinOS again.

Juan - The reason.
But that is what I said. :) :)

Regards,
Peter

PS: Most drivers will not / can not install in MinOS mode.

Do you mean that even if you install that driver in Normal mode it doesn't work when in Minimized?

That's ok Peter I'll read it again, anyway as said I'm happy with the sound I have now.

P.S. The truth is that I'm running in circles because I want to reach the 1000 posts  :)

I do not care
I have set the time in minimized os for two months back and i want to test it if it remains when I switch back to normal os. I want to test it before this demo version of windows 10 expires.

Hi Johan,

If a normal Reboot (into MinOS) sustains the date you want, then booting into Normal OS will do so too.

I am not saying that you now thus don't need to test it, but for your comfort ... (it should be fine as it is).

Peter
