Title: Prevent W10 Windows Updates (10074)
Post by: PeterSt on October 13, 2015, 06:08:37 pm
All,

Elsewhere it has been determined that after booting back into Normal OS (coming from MinOS) the Windows Updates in Windows 10 were turned on again; I admitted a "thinking error" and said that after booting in Normal OS it should be turned off again (Stop Button - RightClick).

This was again wrong thinking, and all it requires is turning off the Updates under Normal OS once. Thus when going to MinOS and back to Normal OS, this returns to the state the OS was in when leaving Normal OS (for MinOS).

Summarized : Just turn off in Normal OS. That's all.

I did not test it but it should just work like that.

Peter

I am almost sure I did it like that but if needed to go back to normal OS then will unplug the network cable to be sure that there is NO communication with the windows server anyhow...

There will be short times when I need to connect my music laptop to the internet, e.g. for driver download, software activation etc. Do the W10 updates only get though on powering down and up again (I would always turn wi-fi off then anyway), or could they sneak in whilst switched back on after powering up and connected for say 10 mins??

I was to write elsewhere however this is good place as well:
There's small script (bat file) on MDL site called "Windows 10 Toggle Tweaker" presently at ver. 2.8 that efficiently stops
Win Updates, removes Cortana, Project Spartan, OneDisk etc. and does not interfere with Peter's OS optimization.

I'm playing with W10074 at the moment and can say it sounds fantastic - with XXHE 2.03 of course.
As someone said (think Joachim) I'm moved from 20th (Win8) to 1st raw now.

However, I have some issues and am not quite confident on staying with 10074:
- NOS1 driver keeps toggling sampling freq. and shows FIFO and other comm errors.
- Restarting PC brings loud PLOP in speakers
- Creating Restore Point while going to MinOS not possible, XXHE reports 'No Virtual Disk Service running' or similar message

George, please post that Driver Toggling in a separate topic. I am sure someone will respond to it.

Otherwise something does not seem right;
I have seen that "No Virtual Disk running" myself and I recall that it was sufficient to :

- Start Explorer;
- RightClick on MyPC or whatever it is called;
- Manage PC
- Disk Management.

Then all is fired up to make a Restore Point (mind you, as I recall but I also recall that 10074 was fine with this to begin with and 10240 is how you describe it).

Regards,
Peter

Paul,

In XXHighEnd RightClick the Stop Button and choose "Stop Windows Updates".
Do this in Normal OS.

Peter

PS: I realize that both George (nik.d) and me don't answer your question really ... (and I don't know either).

Hi,

from my experience the updates are starting as soon as your are connected with the internet. I downloaded the 3.5 only and during that short time span 3 updates have been installed.

Thanks. Where is the 'stop' button. I only installed 2.03 last night and haven't got into it yet.

Well, I am, but you ??

Right click the Stop button :

Bottom option, obviously (shows n/a here because of being in MinOS).

Peter

PS: Maybe you are confused by George, who started to talk about something else ?

Hi,

that  :wacko: is me, not you  :)

Question: Stop W10 Services is what for? No tool tip appears.

Joachim,

I forgot; Must look in the ToolTip.
Eh ...

What about opening a new topic for this. It's messy as it is already. Ok ?
Meanwhile I will dig up the answer for you and post that in there.

Hi
NO, it is not messy. You wrote (with a picture) in the manual for 2.02 about "Stop Windows Updates" and i did forget, and my former advise here is not correct. This button is new and my speculation/assumption was wrong. So, nothing to worry about.
