Title: Track start and Wallpaper problem
Post by: Eric on January 07, 2008, 02:42:54 pm
Hello Peter. My name is Eric and I am new on this forum. I am using XXHE for 7 months now and IMO it generates the best (digital) sound I have heard so far. Now I like some help with a few rather weird behaviours of my setup. My XXHE 09t-5 runs under Vista Ultimate and I would like to report 2 (independent?) problems.

1) My music is stored in 2 different kind of ways. One way is Album divided in Tracks, the other way is Album but not divided in tracks. No doubt this has to do with the way the CD has been ripped. If I load an Album of the 1st kind (i.e. divided in tracks), and Play, it runs starts playing the 1st track etc. However if I load an Album of the 2nd kind, all the track titels appear in the playlist but the last track titel is highlighted blue. And if I start Play, only the last track plays. So if I like to play the whole album (some albums are worthwile to play from the beginning instead of just the last track ;), I first need to click on the 1st track before I start Play. Question: what am I doing wrong ?

2) The 2nd problem I would like to report is the Wallpaper. When I play an album of the 2nd kind, it works ok. However, when I play an album of the 1st kind (i.e. divided in tracks), the error message "ChangeWP does not work anymore" appears. Question: how can I fix this (something wrong in my setup?)

Please help,
Cheers, Eric.

Hi Eric,

On your first subject : I have seen this happening myself, although I never realized that this would be a Cue File (that's what your 1-file albums would be) problem. I will look into it, and most probably with the next version it will be solved.

The second subject, ChangeWP erroring out, I have seen too, but so far I did not recognize that this occurred with the separate tracks only. Anyway, this too will be solved in the next version.

Thanks for reporting,
Peter

No, this is not just separate tracks. I'm not sure what it is yet, but I sure once had an album where each track produced the error.

As far as I can see now, the second problem is also related to Cue Files;
That is, in the situation I have here, the Cue File itself (the .cue file) is named differently than the folder name it is contained in.
I don't think I can solve this ... but maybe I can afterall. :)

Anyway, maybe you can check whether this is your case too Eric ?

Peter

Peter, the CUE file name is identical to the Folder name containing it. However, I continued testing a little bit more and here are my findings. I performed this test with a cleaned XXHE playlist.

1) First I ran a Registry Scan and Repair using RegistryBooster2 to ensure an errorfree Registry
2) After Rebooting, I loaded a CUE type album from the library and started to Play. Actually only the last track as indicated by the highlight in the Playlist.
3) I selected Stop and Off.
4) Again I ran a Registry Scan to see if something interesting has occurred. YES, the scan resulted in the following message.

Missing or Invalid Path. The Key OpenWithList under HKEY_CURENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wav contains a bad path a for the value

I do not know if this is related to the problem but I hope it helps.
Ciao, Eric.

I get the ChangeWP error sometimes...I don't know what the rhyme or reason of it is.

You could try to put below ChangeWP.exe (coming from the Zip) to put in your current XXHighEnd directory.
If it helps (which I assume ) it *must* be so that the name of the Cue File is different from the folder the Cue File is in (without .cue of course).

I know you said that this is the case Eric, so this should not help. But then I need the example somehow. :scratching:

I downloaded the ChangeWP.exe and put it in the XXHighEnd directory. I selected an album and renamed it (the Folder containing the .CUE and .WAV files). After loading the album I observed no change in the behaviour of XXHE. The last track is still highlighted. It does ask me for permission to run ChangeWP.exe, which worked fine. After playing, I checked the Registry and found that the same error as before has been generated.
I also tested an album that does not contain a .CUE file. Still the message "ChangeWP does not work anymore" appears before every track before the music starts.

Cheers, Eric.

Hi Eric,

I notice that you mix the two subjects "last track highlighted" and "Does not work anymore". I didn't change anything to the "last track highlighted" subject (nor did I say so). Thus, I have been working on the "Does not work anymore" only. Ok ?

Quote
I selected an album and renamed it (the Folder containing the .CUE and .WAV files). After loading the album I observed no change in the behaviour of XXHE.

Of course you are talking about the last track thing, but "no change" cannot be true. Before this did not work (Does not work anymore), and now it does. Hence, now the folder name where the album is in, does not need to be the same as the name of the .cue file.

Quote
I checked the Registry and found that the same error as before has been generated.

I don't think this is related since this is about a .wav file, and in the process concerned it is about a .cue file (it doesn't look good this registry entry, and sure it comes from somewhere / some problem). Looking at your description there's not even something going wrong (and the last track thing is no error as such, but just something inconvenient I must solve).

Quote
After loading the album I observed no change in the behaviour of XXHE. [...] It does ask me for permission to run ChangeWP.exe

Note that this implies that before it also asked you for permission. Assuming this is correct ... WHAT ?!! :swoon: so you say that at the start of each track the system asks you whether it's okay to run ChangeWP ?? In fact I can't believe that and maybe this is the first time (with this newly downloded version) only ? But if it's all the time indeed, please read this : Vista Users ... prepare yourselves ... (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=209.0) and arrange for you rights.
If indeed it is so that the system asks you for permission each time, please copy the message(s !) concerned to me.

Quote
I also tested an album that does not contain a .CUE file. Still the message "ChangeWP does not work anymore" appears before every track before the music starts.

At least this shows that you have this outside of Cue Files. :scratching: Since I can't copy this behaviour, I need data to do so (but please, if your rights weren't arranged for, do that first ! (see before)). So :
Please make a screen copy of explorer, showing the full path to the album concerned, and make a screen copy of the full contents of that folder (showing the .wav files and all that's in there). Also indicate which track you run when this happens.
To speed things up a bit, in parrallel you could email me the folder.jpg from this folder (album) so I can check whether something is just wrong with that image.

Sorry for the nitwitting, but I'm trying to find the culprit ! (on the "Does not work anymore", *not* on the "last track" thing, that's for later).
I hope I'm not too confusing ...
Peter

Peter,
the "does not work anymore" problem never showed up when I play Cue file albums. I am afraid that this was not clear in my initial description. However, when I play an album without Cue files, the "does not work anymore" problem always shows up. And it does so before every track is played.
Cheers, Eric.

Hello Peter,
I have a/the ChangeWP error with wav files. Happens with a single core pc, haven't checked it yet with my duocore laptop yet. With the single core I don't get the cover eather in unattended mode.
If I don't check the unattended box I don't get the error but then probably this program ChangeWP  is not started. It gives the error message with every new wavfile in the playlist. It does not stop the XX playing . At the end of the album I have a lot of errormessages to click away.
The last version of ChangeWP does not make a difference.

I have changes the rights to administrator as explained by you before Peter.

hope this helps you looking for the solution.

I am getting the ChangeWP error both in attended and in unattended mode. I will be happy to send screenprints and other debugging aids, however I will be away from my system until January 28.
Enjoy, Eric.

Sinds the latest vers. I do not anymore.   :)

Well actually i was wrong :(

Yesterday playing suddenly the errors came up.... The error apears at every new song at the beginning of a track.

The thing i did different was that i played music that was on another drive... Peter i think  you remember that i play my music on the same drive where the folder XX is stored. Well that was the reason that i did not have these errors... Yesterday i played a cd that was on the other drive and at every song the WP error came up.

So i moved the  cd to my music drive and checked if it reacts the same there. But it did not. All cd's on the other drive gave the errors... (Playing WAV)

I don't now what to think of that... :( :)

Grtz

I am, say, 100% this will lead to something, but not yet ...
I don't even *have* music on the drive XX is "installed".

Anyway, below is a version of ChangeWp.exe which might produce an error of use.
Don't forget to pull down the Details page (if there).

And this one ?

Be careful that you indeed use the appropriate ChangeWP versions ! (keep track of date/time).

Edit :
NO ! This one is wrong by itself. Do not use this one to test !
(removed it)

Wait a minute ... we also had this one : ChangeWP.exe bug ?? (http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=341.0) which I never thought about anymore. Gerard, won't this be your situation (spaces in Share Names) ?

Despite my previous post ... does this one produce an error ?

This one does not hide or show the Desktop Icons. But if it doesn't error it must be something in there.

Side info : the problem (for me) is that an "error trap" won't work out. This by itself is strange.

Thanks for your help !
Peter

Look above to your most bottom error message. I bet you don't have that anymore.
Yes/No/Otherwise, I can't guess that.

But if it's now the same as in the beginning (say, one hour ago) I must give up. Dunno what to do anymore.

If you feel like testing one more thing ...

When it goes wrong, now there is a second message. Please screen copy that ...
Also, please tell me what is the track name that started at it going wrong ...

And might it be related, Gerard, what / why is the strange C:\, TRANCE\... I always see in your screen copies (like the one above) ?

Thanks !

Peter,

In explorer i sorted things out... When i put a dot (.) before the name of a map than it alway's shows at the top... Because my music drive is full i moved a few maps to C:\

I tested this out because i thougt it might have anything to with the error. So i moved a cd from .TRANCE and put it in a normal map.... But that did not change anything....

Il try the zip now..

This error was the second after the post before... And come's up at every new track at the beginning..
