Title: Allow Windows 10 updates BASE and RAM
Post by: Gerard on January 21, 2016, 06:08:39 pm
Is that set by default to off Peter?

And still needed? And for every Windows version

 :)

Gerard,

Good question. Regard that a "not".
I never have my Audio PC connected to the Internet ...

Just to note that automatic updates was set to ON by default with my RAM-OS disc and before I could get into my router to disable internet access on my XX PC it updated the base disc. I assumed the router would prevent access to the internet with the new RAM disc because the MAC address had not changed (can't see that a new disc changes the MAC address) but I was wrong. Probably the PC name changing caused the problem.

Maybe I wasn't clear by saying this :

So Updates are NOT set to Off.

Otherwise I can't understand much why in the world people are connected to the Internet in the first place. So I like to learn the reason for that.
(the includes all of our experiences with Windows 10 NOT to, right ?)

Thanks,
Peter

Ok, now out of further context a not a 100% fair response I gave there; I too much looked at my own situation and for me all is "easy". So easy that I completely forgot about this.

But Paul, to which of the OSes did this hapen ? if it is one of the BASE ones then it would be rendered pretty useless. I even wonder what would really happen to that ...

Let me know, and allow me to hand a bunch of apologies.
Peter

Peter  - it was 586 BASE should I replace it with the copy 586 I await your guidance. By the way 586 seems to be running OK it certainly sounds good when loaded into RAM even though it "suffered" an update.

Hi Paul,

Although I never tested it, point is that now your disk space should be - or can be less. Plus that the danger exists (100% ?) that it sounds differen from "intended" (true - whatever that exactly is). But I have an idea ...
:haha:

Boot into TRIAL (ehm, no Internet or/and Updates Off).

Rename the file (the proper one) to a for you recognizable name. MyW10-10586-Upd or so.
Now copy from the " - Copy" version back to the original name (thus register that original name first).
Remember, do *not* rename the " - Copy" to the original name (you would loose the backup).

Now al is fine.

Next thing I will do today is make the Tutorial for Upgrading. Then you can see how an OS is added to the system.
And now you have an additional OS with perhaps different SQ ...

Regards,
Peter
