Title: Galerie open's after i have been on other tab. (B.V. Playlist)
Post by: Gerard on January 21, 2008, 02:18:47 pm
Peter,

These are my settings..  (T6)

When i click on a gallerie (T62) and than all the cd's in that gallerie are shown at the right side and click on a cd ( To load into playlist) and i go to B.V. the playlist. Than after going back to Library the galleriemap i clickt on the last time open's automatically. (T63)

I have to close it first before i can go further...

Also going to another tab b.v. Settings causes opening up gallerie i have clickt the last time.

Ps ( before going to another tab it was not opend. I only clickt once. Not on the plus. Not by means of search.)

Hi Gerard,

What you presumeably do, is click on the folder, in your case Easy Listening. That click, causes the path to be contained in the "path field" at the bottom. Look and see how indeed "Easy Listening" is contained in there too. Now, what happens when you click that folder (and I am NOT talking about opening it), is that the system performs a click on the Search button as well, that by itself causing the contents of the Library Area to narrow to Easy Listening (whatever that is in your case :)), and which is exactly equal to what the Embedded Explorer shows (btw not in your pictures, because you scrolled down a bit).
Now, the Explorer shows always one level lower than what was selected (clicked !), which IMO is the obvious thing to do, otherwise you'd never be able to drill down..

What you "forget" is to click on your GALLERIES, once you clicked on one of the lower folders. If you do that, it will come back with the opened "GALLERIES", and nothing else, but I think it wil bold the one ... hahaha, now I don't know.

Maybe I'm too unexperience myself to know what I brew there. I will look into it.

Peter

Peter,

I click on the gallerie and not at the folder. And you are right that clicking folder changes the search field. but clicking on a gallerie will do that too.

IMO it would be nice if i have been on another tab and go back to library that it is like pic 2 instead pic 3....

And that only clicking on + will the reason for opening.  :) But maybe i am doing something wrongish...  :)

Do other people have the same little problem?

 :)

Well the least small mistake you make is that folder is equal to "map" hence directory, which is unrelated to data in a directory versus meta data in a directory, because all is data. If you'd compare with normal explorer functions, you'll see that exactly the same is happening, including the reappearance of all once you would set it to save for a next startup. Look at below picture for how my explorer on this particular starts up, with MyComputer selected, the contents shown at the right, but the first level of the selection at the left just the same.

The difference with normal explorer is that you can set it like my example below, but if you want it different, you have to change the settings. XX just remembers what you did last and re-selects that at a next startup. Note : select is click on that first entry behind the plus/min, might it be a folder icon, drive icon anything. Nothing is related to selecting in the right pane. Not in normal Explorer, not in XX.

Isn't that XP from the last pic? Or is it with Vista the same?

Yes it is. No difference from Vista. Below is another one (from another PC, deliberately cut a bit :)). The parameters to do this are not well known; for the ones I used here, see the bottom picture.

After I clicked on an "icon" (not on a plus) and left it like that ? yes. But now I'm behinf the PC myself, I think I can see what the problem is ...

Look again at my picture below ...
The difference with what you have, is that I have a "main" Galery AllMusic. This is the one I "should" click after having clicked a deeper tree in order to reset back to "all". You can't because you don't have an "all". Now :

You could say that the solution is to add a folder Galery above your "GALLERIES" (remember, it's just normal folders there you could manipulate with normal Explorer, or even the Embedded one), but it would be wrong. Why ? because then you'd have redundancy in one selection. This is because your
e.g. Easy Listening could contain albums also contained in Instrumental. Thus, clicking your (now virtual) highest "AllMusic" folder would present double results. That's why AllMusic and the destractions of it should be at the same level. Thus :

You "should" (if you want, that is) create a new folder e.g. AllMusic at the same level of the ones you have right now, and dump all your music in there (best would be with the original data as the source, also knowing that your current shown list might not contain all you have).

Is this a bit clear ?

Btw, in fact it is caused because you can't select the highest level, which I chose to present like that. I could make it though, but according to my story above it would encourage for the wrong (redundancy in the result list).

I thought I just answered, but my post is not here. Hmm ...
What I said was :

This is a know problem, and you should copy bits and pieces. It is about all being too much, *or* something wrong in a particulat folder. Anticipate on the first, until you can prove otherwise.

Btw, your own post has gone too :scratching: ... it's hard to understand what it's about now.

Ok, you can't copy a lot of data, and the thing hangs for a minute or so and then errors out. Well, one of the reasons I found that this happens, is when you copy from folders that contain *and* normal data (like WAV) *and* meta data (MTA). Such a situation should not exists of course and the MTA should not be in there. Delete the MTA and it goes. *If* that is the cause of course.

Gerard, you are right, and my story is wrong;
The fact that you told that you didn't have CD's twice anyway got me thinking "but then he should be able / just allowed to do what he does".

Woke up this morning and saw the light ...  :prankster:

With me too, the AllMusic (look at that it's bold because I clicked on it !) opens after the Library Area is reselected. But ... you *can* click on the root (GALLERIES in your case), and it *does* work, only ... it takes a while before all is reloaded, and I never saw that it worked !! So for me it looked like my AllMusic did not re-open, while in fact I had selected the root, and *I* have the redundancy I told you not to have. Hahahaha.

Conclusion : it is not working correctly.
I'm not sure yet how to solve it, because I thought it was nice to be able to jump into the structure (automatically) to see where you are. But indeed not at the cost of not being able to select a genre easily.

Gerard, once again thank you for your persistancy and time. And once again ... you were right.  :good:
Peter
