Title: Music Server (You should try it)
Post by: Arjan on February 11, 2016, 12:29:01 am
Hi,
Had an old pc lying around, only used for ripping CD's. Made it the music server for my audio pc!
To me it gives a better 3D soundstage especially more depth. And a bit cleaner sound. Also the audio pc is faster and more stable. No hickups at all. (I have some issues with the lower sfs settings)

Advice: If you have a laptop or old pc available try a music server - audio pc setup!

regards, Arjan

I recently made this switch and can confirm the difference from using storage in the audio PC.  I also recently switched to RDC from music service to audio PC, and running the audio PC headless with no keyboard or mouse, and found further improvements in SQ.

Since a few days I also have this setup running and I can confirm the above mentioned benefits for SQ.
I was quite surprised the sound is more "present" in terms of sound stage and tonality.

For the music server I bought a cheap ex lease corporate desktop computer (Fujitsu) that is quiet and flexible for changing disks etc.

Now I'm collecting courage (and €) for the next step, the RAM OS.
