Title: Q5 issue
Post by: hwk on February 16, 2016, 10:48:18 am
Hi Peter,

I stumbled into another issue here: when I use Q5 (setting 1 or 5) the music plays normally about 10 minutes and after that suddenly only nasty digital sounds come out of XXHe.
When I use Q5=0: no problem

Best Regards, HW

Hmm ...

Not that I ever heard about such a thing (really not), but this should be about your processor's capabilities. I see you have an i3 (which really is not powerful) so there it starts. But you can try another Core Appointment Scheme. Thing of course is : this is nothing nice to try out (and run into the issue again).

With Q5 (but also Q3 and Q4) to other than 0, there's a special "hogging" of the processor going on, and to me it seems that it can not take that (it is not fast enough). But this is only very wild guessing because I never heard of this problem ...

Hi Peter,

it wasn't the Q5 setting... Now I'll try with no HDCD clicked... In the past that also gave troubles in the old version

Hi Peter,

it wasn't the HDCD button also.
After that I thought it had to do something with the Coverart, for if I pressed Alt-X, the music continued playing normally again.
But first I'll try another button that wasn't there before: the W10 Services button. I set it OFF now, restarted  the PC and until now it seems to be OK.
Perhaps my Home Edition is not stable if the extra W10 Services are also set OFF?
With the Services ON the sound quality stays the same for my ears. Did I already tell you, I like the sound of this XXHe edition very, very much?  ;)

Best Regards, HW

I'm not sure ?
haha

If it is really caused by that W10 button being active ... I sure can imagine it.
Notice that the Home version has not been tested and is also not advised (no RDC possible). Besides that ... why ? did you need to buy it and now it was cheaper ? (the latter is a good reason, but since upgrading to W10 is for free ...)

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
well.... the issue isn't over yet. I tried everything in the settings, but after eight minutes or so the sound "collapses" in a sort of digital mess. With the use of some imagination one could hear something of the original music. After using Alt-x the music continues normally. When I use Alt-x before the incident happens (so the UI is visible on the screen), it happens still every time after a while, but hovering with the mousepointer through the UI the music continues. Quite frustrating situation.

It is very good that you say this, because it provides some clues (of where not to be).

What is your SFS set at ?
How do things change when you set that to 60 ?

Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,

I will do that. (The settings are mostly as in my profile)
But.. what I forgot to mention is that when it happens and I press Alt-x, after repressing the UI again, the music (most of the time) stays OK for the rest of the time.
The troubles start Always after a restart of my PC.
Another thing: I mentioned earlier the hovering with the mouse. This "stutters" a bit while sweeping.
Now I will restart after setting the SFS to 60 and get back to you later

No Peter. With SFS=60: after a while the issue got back.

I have no problem with a W10 upgrade to Professional, but I'm not sure this will help: I already let the W10 services which can be set off stay on...
I'm not sure when this all started. When I did the upgrade all worked well for some days.
I think it all started when I fiddled a bit with the Xtweaks. But after that I set these in the earlier settings and after trying XXHe denotes OPTIMAL

No Peter. With SFS=60: after a while the issue got back.

I just can't imagine what is going on then.

If this is happening, do you have the feeling that the sound is way more "slow" ? I mean, supposed you'd let play a track which is 2 minutes, does it last 2 minutes ? or merely 10 minutes or so ? (I estimate that you can hear by the sound it produces what it's going to be).
I'm just trying to guess what you actually hear (for my recognition).

Peter

PS: No, I am not claiming that Pro will help; only that Home is an unknown variable at this moment.

Hi Peter,

No, normal sounding music. The music plays normally for 8-9 minutes. No hickups or other stuff. Just beautifull sounding music. Then suddenly a sort of digitally IIIIIIh, AAAAAh, OOOOh sound with a sort of rhythm of the music. No messages of any kind.  When I then press Alt-X the music continues normally (off course the UI of the player pops up). And the music seems te haved moved on while the wrong sound was playing.
My friend Johan suggested to play the music without Engine 3. I'll try that.
It still is strange: "and I press Alt-x, after repressing the UI again, the music (most of the time) stays OK for the rest of the time."
I'll get back to you later

Without Engine3 is not possible...

I had similar problem and it seems to have been cured by going back to normal OS & then straight back to min OS.

On another PC I've just installed XXHE on i3 W10586.0 Home and so far it works fine but not yet activated so Q5=2 and normal OS at moment. to disable Defender in W10 Home needs a registry edit other methods did not work.

I again come to the same as my first suggestion : processor core scheme. Change it.
I guess it is that, already because a. you didn't respond to that and b. you don't have it mentioned in your sig (that I see at a glance). Haha.

At the same time also change this :
Nervous Rate to 1 (in XTweaks);
ClockRes to 1.

If it helps then you can sort out which of these three it is.

Colin's suggestion is also good although vague (there is no reason that such a thing should help, but anything can have happened by self-tweaking in MinOS which gets (or can get) undone at going back to normal OS).
But the suggestion is good because it helped him and is harmless (and quick) to do.

Regards,
Peter

PS: I didn't really get an answer on my question about the playing time during the distortion.

One more thing :
Is it possible, please, to at least for one time mention your name ? I'm having difficulties with who is who and hwk doesn't tell me much.
If you want to keep it secret, then fine. But if you don't care then I do (I think we all do :)).

Thanks !
Peter

Hi Peter,
Henk-Willem is the name...We met already two times at Veldhoven.
But more important: the problem is solved!!!!!
As you and Johan suggested: I changed the Processor Scheme to NOTHING, restarted and the problem was no longer there. Sorry I missed the suggestion earlier. Did I already said I'm sorry?
With a Little Help from My Friends......
A small issue did pop up however:  when I changed the Processor Scheme on the SETTINGS page and then restarted, the Processor Scheme under the Q button still indicates CORE 1-2
I play now again with Core 1-2 on both places and no troubles anymore.
I will play with the XTweaks as you suggested  another time, for the beautiful sound I hear now doesn't make me eager to change anything at all.
I'll change my profile with the new settings, so other i3 users might profit.

Best Regards, Henk-Willem

Hi Henk-Willem,

Super !!

I will look what happens with this selection of "Nothing" and that it won't stay. Should be some bug ...

Best regards !
